CMJ 25 PRESENTS THE HOTTEST AND MOST CRITICAL BANDS, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, INDUSTRY LEADERS & FILMS IN NYC WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH

New York – September 13, 2005 – For 25 years, the legendary CMJ Music Marathon has been a springboard for the best new music talent from multiple music genres, discovering music’s future superstars years before their commercial breakthroughs. Marquee artists ranging from R.E.M. (’83), Red Hot Chili Peppers (’84), The Beastie Boys (’85), Marilyn Manson (’91), Rage Against The Machine (’93), Weezer (’94), Modest Mouse (’98), Jet and The Killers (’03), and The Arcade Fire (’04) have rocked the stages of past CMJ Music Marathons.

Nearly 5,000 bands were considered for this year’s conference, CMJ 2005, taking place Wednesday, September 14th to Saturday the 17th in New York City. Representing the best of the new, over 1,000 artists from the worlds of rock, electronica, hip-hop, metal, Americana, world, jazz and much more will invade New York City’s premiere clubs and venues this week for the silver anniversary of CMJ. At CMJ25, it’s virtually assured that one of next year’s breakout bands will be playing somewhere in New York City.

Just some of the bands to watch at CMJ 25 include: Aesop Rock, Against Me!, Amadou and Mariam, The Arcade Fire, Atmosphere, Blackalicious, Brazilian Girls, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Cannibal Ox, !!!, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Coheed and Cambria, The Constantines, Crooker Fingers, Fountains of Wayne, The Dandy Warhols, Devendra Banhart & Hairy Fairy, Dirty on Purpose , Doves, Dungen, Dr. Dog, Feist, The Giraffes, The Hold Steady, (International) Noise Conspiracy, John Vanderslice, The Juan Maclean, Lady Sovereign, Longwave, Little Brother, Mae, New Buffalo, The New Pornographers, The Oranges Band, Regina Spektor, SMOOSH, The Sun, Tilly & The Wall, Tom Vek, Towers of London, Wolfmother, Wolf Parade, and The Wrens.

In addition to featuring hundreds of shows at venues throughout the city, CMJ Music Marathon 2005 features a keynote speech by Rev Run, co-founder of the legendary hip-hop crew Run-DMC, more than 50 panel discussions exploring a wide variety of topics for professionals, students and enthusiasts covering virtually every aspect of the recording industry, and a cutting edge film festival with advanced screenings of the Fall’s most anticipated films including Martin Scorsese’s Bob Dylan: No Direction Home, Cameron Crowe’s Elizabethtown, Mike Mills’ Thumbsucker, Tony Scott’s Domino, Walk the Line, and the newly added, A History of Violence starring Viggo Mortensen, and many more. Directors Marc Forster, Mike Mills, Greg Whiteley (New York Doll), Rian Johnson (Brick), and Aaron Goldman (Dreaming in America) will be in attendance at the screenings of their films for a Q&A session with the CMJ audience.

Over the years, CMJ Music Marathon has featured some of the world’s most influential and revolutionary musicians, artists, cultural, and political figures at a variety of events including presentations, screenings, Q&A sessions, panel discussions and performances. CMJ 2005 continues that tradition, highlighting the best in new music first.
