Nokia Theater Times Square opens with Bon Jovi
"With a capacity of 2,200, the Nokia isn't tiny. But it delivers the feel of a club because of the multiple balconies that hug the stage, allowing more patrons close to the stage than at conventional theaters. While it's far from the perfect rock venue, the sound - delivered through hundreds of small, shiny new JBL speakers - was very good, the sightlines were unobstructed and the joint is small enough that you don't need a telescope to see the stars. The air conditioning, however, was abysmal. And inside the auditorium, the Nokia has all the style and warmth of a McDonald's." [NY Post]
"This is probably the smallest thing we did since dinner last night at my place," joked Jon Bon Jovi Monday night, referring to the intimate confines of the Nokia Theater Times Square in New York City. His band Bon Jovi christened the new 2,100-capacity venue -- the audience included Jay-Z, Beyonce and L.A. Reid, among others -- by bringing out their arena-sized blast of melodic hooks and rock-star poses." [Rolling Stone]

Was at Nokia Theater last night for Social Distortion. Gotta say this place was TOP NOTCH. The main room was sweet and really felt loads smaller than the 2100 capacity, with a good view from nearly anywhere. The sound was AMAZING. I'm kinda old and have been to probably a thousand or so shows at tons of different venues (including loads of "anal retentive about thier sound" stuff like Roxy Music @ Radio City, The Sugarcubes @ TLA in Philly, Shellac @ Knitting Factory, etc) and don't think I've ever heard a better set up. To top it off, the staff, security, etc were nice AND they have a smoking area outside. I'm really looking forward to seeing Spoon and Bauhaus there.. I just hope they book some better stuff soon.

Hi there, I'm going to see Fiona Apple at the Nokia Theater on Sunday night. I've never been there since it's been a club. The tickets say doors open at 6pm. Does anyone have any idea what that means? Do they usually have an opening act? I guess my question is, what time might we see Fiona? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
