I haven't even finished posting who I did see (Joggers, Celebration, Walking Concert, De Novo Dahl, We are Scientists, Wolf Parade, etc...), but anyway here's who I DIDN'T see at CMJ 2005...
PRAYERS AND TEARS @ KEXP

1-2. The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers & Two Gallants
Of Central Village's top five CMJ shows, I didn't see The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers or Two Gallants. I didn't actually see Silversun Pickups either, but they're not on the list because I saw them open for Brian Jonestown Massacre last night (They were real good). Above photo of Prayers and Tears playing their free KEXP show from Central Village's CMJ photo rundown. He also just posted a Prayers and Tears MP3. Catherine saw Two Gallants @ Cake Shop.
GOBLIN COCK @ MERCURY LOUNGE

3. Goblin Cock
I really wanted to see this Heavy Metal side project of Pinback's Rob Crow, but my Thursday night was already jam packed. Kathryn was there. That's how I got the picture. UIAUD says they were a "hysterical parody of doom metal."
CURSIVE @ BOWERY BALLROOM

4. Cursive
I'm trying to stay away from established bands on this list, but there was a lot of talk about Cursive being the secret guest at the Saddle Creek showcase. The above cropped photo was stolen from heartonastick's photo post. It proves they made it to the show.
TOM VEK @ TRIBECA GRAND

5. Tom Vek
I had multiple chances to catch Tom during his first trip to NYC, but failed all of them. Rajeev from One Louder was more focused . He's got a review with pictures (including the one you see above).
DEVIN DAVIS @ KEXP

6. Devin Davis
Last but not least, I wanted to check out Devin Davis at KEXP, day stage, or CB's Gallery. I didn't make it to any, but Yeti Don't Dance was at the KEXP one. That's where I got the above photo.
7 (sort of). ANY KEXP SHOW
Though the KEXP in-studios were a major highlight of CMJ 2004 for me (imagine a small room, the Arcade Fire, and like 30 people), I didn't make it to even one this year. That's okay because eventually KEXP will post them all as individual streaming shows. In the meantime, you can download them as podcasts or search for the streams by date and time.
As previously mentioned, I missed Bell Orchestre due to a scheduling error on CMJ's part. I also didn't see Clap Your Hands @ Mercury Lounge, The Hold Steady, Regina Spektor @ Irving Plaza, !!!, or Lady Sovereign, but those don't count in this post.

I saw Chad VanGaalen

i saw goldspot and youth group sessions at kexp. what a privilege it is to attend those...

even though they weren't buzz bands (in fact, i didn't hear anyone talk about them), the two best bands i saw all weekend were:
read yellow (boston) - http://www.readyellow.com
the static age (vermont) - http://www.thestaticage.com
they were so great live and are just as good on CD. anyone that missed the shows should be kicking themselves, IMHO.

Silversun Pickups...hell yeah! They rocked the Fader House.
Saw Rogue Wave at KEXP. They down tempo'd (?) all four songs they played, which was nice, because I think they played the same four songs at normal tempo on Saturday.

i went to see amusement parks on fire at Pianos for the kanine records thing
caught Mixel Pixel (so so)
and Grizzly Bear who surprised me--I had heard a few things but wasn't prepared for the live show. honestly along with wolf parade and arcade fire it was one of my favorite shows, possiblity because it was so unexpected
Amusement parks on fire I found a bit lackluster

Thanks for the link. I also just linked to an mp3 of only "Mr. Tambourine Man" extracted from Cloud Cult's KEXP session.

the kexp sessions are so great -- though the 10am slot for bands is often a killer. i had a friend sleep through prayers and tears who played to about a dozen people sitting in three rows of chairs. very intimate.
goblin cock also played cake shop at 2am on friday, right after les savy fav!

I missed the joggers, yet again, but caught a great band at tonic. Never heard of the psychic hearts, but they were the highlight of cmj for me. Was that girl wearing any bra? hmmmm

The Rakes were awesome at the Cake Shop....Sort of like Bloc Party meets Maximo Park.
De Novo Dahl's show at the theory 8 showcase was also memorable...great costumes.
tom vek was awesome, but you already knew that.
the films were awful, and the sun were pleasant. metric stole the show at that show (filter) though, but they don't need any more press.
the highlight of cmj though may of taken place the next day, at soundfix records.
the crowd simply did not want the fruit bats to stop, and so they must of played for at least an hour. likewise, rogue wave played an hour plus set, mellow set. it was the perfect way to unwind after a crazy week.

I love Man Man and regret not seeing them live. When they opened for the Arcade Fire back in February, I wasn't sure what to think, but their album is amazing.

Metric played a great set at the Hiro Ballroom this past Saturday.
Thanks for the heads up about the free show Mr. Vegan!

I really like Man Man, too... but they were here just a short while back, and are coming back in November. No need to see them at CMJ.

i saw devin davis at cb's, played a great set. i spoke with him afterwards, apparently the next album might or might not be released under the name 'devin davis and the glaciers'
also, young & sexy at the mint records show case was a cmj band that somehow got completely ignored (despite their awesomeness).

Probably my most lasting memory from CMJ 2005 is of when The Rosebuds improvised an acoustic singalong version of Shake The Tree.
Phenomenal.

i dont know about the bra question, but definitely PSYCHIC HEARTS are phenomenal. i'm from georgia, so i've seen then quite a few times. they keep getting better.
they should be back in nyc in novemeber i believe
