A Guide to Animal Collective | Feels
I spent the last week learning why everyone loves the new Animal Collective album.
FEELS

"Feels is a near-stunning album a notable amount of the time; by focusing their instincts, Animal Collective has become freer than the freest folk, twice as wild as apes, and saturated with taste and invention that trump both." [Stylus gave Feels an A-]
"Some have unimaginatively characterized AC as freak-folkers." [The Village Voice likes it too]
"With each new album it becomes clearer that Animal Collective will not stay still." [Pitchfork gave Feels a 9.0]
"Feels is a psychedelic wonderland filled with life-affirming warmth." [Tiny Mix Tapes says 4.5/5]

This 'band' is so bad. Please stop drinking the pitchfork kool aid people. its not even music.

I prefer Sung Tongs over Feels. Both are incredible though. Haven't seen them live yet and excited/nervous for the Webster show. I agree that these guys should not be labeled as freak-folk. Perhaps it's best not to try and classify them

Steve, I'd usually be the first to knock pitchfork right with ya, but not this time. These guys are on to something and I think we have yet to hear their best work.

best record of 2005.

couldn't get into sung tongs for some reason, but feels is one of my favorite records of the year. still weird, but slightly more structured and pop-oriented weirdness.

The steve person is obviously repeating something he has heard. No one can possibly listen to this album and say "it's not even music". It's much more acessible than anything they've ever done. It's not even that experimental; it respects classical song structure a lot more, and it's very clearly melodic.
How is a song like "grass" not music? How is "the purple bottle" not music?

Fantastic album...in my top 10...I agree that that "freak folk" isn't right.
