Arctic Monkeys' debut tops charts | Video
"Sheffield rock band the Arctic Monkeys have topped the UK singles charts with their debut track, after building up a fan base on the internet. I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor trumped pop trio the Sugababes after three weeks in the number one spot. Arctic Monkeys gained a significant following thanks to the marketing power of the internet, and were eventually signed by Domino Records." [BBC]

i hate sounding like a "hatah" or stick in the mud, but damn, another band that is hyped that I simply don't get, i swear i heard this coming out of my neighbor's garage, and I don't mean that in a complement

thank you "K", im glad you can hear past the hype, its about time a good band actually gets hyped...

These guys sound like cheap ripoffs of the Libertines!
Posted by Holla | October 24, 2005 8:41 AM
seriously. has everyone simply forgot that the libertines existed and/or how good they were? good god, its like everyone is just projecting their old feelings for pete and carl on this new pale imitation.

In other news, Arctic Monkeys tops list of worst of worst band names.
Posted by dacaplan | October 24, 2005 10:29 AM
yeah, rip-off of libertines (who were just an okay band)

Calling your band Arctic Monkeys is like calling your newborn child Dildo-Worm. A name like that instantly condemns you to a life [or career] of misery, vomit, & hilarious crushed-insect failure.

I bought my ticket BECAUSE they're called the Arctic Monkeys. I like the built-in limited-potential the name has, and was kind of hoping they'd be wearing costumes.
That would really amuse my son, Dildo-Würm.

when do tickets for Dildo-Würm go on sale? my roommate's ex-girlfriend's little sister said they rock.
Posted by captainFurburger | October 24, 2005 12:29 PM
i heard dildo wurm turned down a slot on the OC.

Think Dildo Wurm will be tomorrow's Spin.com band of the day? (Today it's Goblin Cock).

I wish! but that honor's gonna go to Space Twat. a crime if you ask me.

Dude, myspace is SO seven-and-a-half minutes ago. Madonna's on myspace. Case, point.
Way-cool Dildo-Würm will be doing a residency on the F Train. At least until they can collect enough for a room.

It is their second single though, not their debut. They released 'Five Minutes With The Arctic Monkeys' a while back.

I just read in NME that Dildo-Wurm's gettin sued...HARDCORE... turns out Dildo-Wyrm, 60s fuzz-psych-prog behemoths from Sweden, gnashed teeth when they heard about the name infringement... and served papers. So the Wurm's in trouble... loyal fans have written in their suggestions for the new moniker... among the candidates: "Dildo Harm", "Bilbo Swarm", and "Dildo Sabbath"... it's all the same to me, man... it's like Dinosaur switching to Dinosaur Jr... the song remains the same, though the name be changed, hear me?

This just in: Dildo-Würm (Malos) will be DJ'ing this Thursday at The Douche Hatchery! Look for the skanky photos at all the usual places.

Quote 'It is their second single though, not their debut. They released 'Five Minutes With The Arctic Monkeys' a while back.'
Its their first non limited release single.
You must see this band live. However I am worried that the lyric may not translate. They are witty and confident. You can dance through out. I recomend them highly and you can get all their demos on their forum (arcticmonkeys.com) I recomen bigger boys and stolen sweethearts, mardy bum (this may well not translate, its even quite particular to the city in the UK they are from) and fake tales of san fransisco.
cheers

That doesn't make it their debut though ;)

no, your right. I cannot deny the obvious in the cold light of day. Its not their debut. But it is their first non limited release single. :p
Also their not ripoffs of the Libertines. They are just 2 dam fine bands that are a thrill to watch live. but I can see why people would make the association.

Hey, I've got news for you guys. The Libertines weren't even that good fellas.
They can write a good tune, (although all you Lib fans seem to forget the great likeness they're sound has with The Clash), but after that they don't have a true presence as live performers beyond creating a rapor with the croud. But as stand alone artists they aren't anything to write home about.
Karl is aa good guitarist but has a mediocre singing voice. Pete on the other hand is a decent player but his singing voice is merely recognised through a unique sound, however that doesn't mean he's a good singer. But even then he isn't a distinctive voice like that of the great Bob Dylan.
Then as for the lyrics that everyone says are genius; anyone that has read poetry by Milton or Wordsworth can understand where the play on words the manipulation of phonetics comes into play.......... didn't Pete used to be a new romantic in his younger days?
Well anyway, back to the Arctic Monkeys.
Here we have a bunch of yound lads (much younger than when The Libertines were when they were formed, not to mention even Pete admitted that all The Libs were was a tribute band of The Strokes) that don't have their heads up their own arse (cool lads, I've talked to them in Cologne on Friday).
Their lyrics aren't set out to be clever for now reason but merely straight to the point. Mix that with a true 'rhythm and blues' voice of Turner (similar to that of Eric Burdon from The Animals) and you get what could potentially be a Great band.
Besides I bet all you guys slagging them off are 'Kaiser' fans anyway. Just go listen to some more pop.

Listen to all their shit man- I've heard about 15 tracks and the AMs are a strong outfit- great backline and some tough sentiments too- they onl;y remind of the libertines cos you can smell the mayhem- can't wait to seem em live!
