Has the hype faded yet?

Dirt (first name Joe?),

I don't see it as hype. I see it as good music. The 'hype' (IMO) is justified.

i think the hype has faded somewhat and you can actually listen to the music for what it is...good songs.

They've sold like 15,000 albums or something right? how low key does a band have to be at this point?

Posted by josh | October 19, 2005 11:33 AM

josh...over 20,000 now....

Doesn't matter, they can sell 50,000 albums and it doesn't mean they put on a good live show. They've been playing live for 1 year and it shows, which is kind of sad given the number of good bands here in NYC playing 2/3 years and they piss all over them and not getting 1/8th the press these guys are. Also, they're manager has a dayjob at ATLANTIC RECORDS!!! Please, remember it's 'who' you know right guys? -deb

deb- are you saying they aren't talented or that they don't have a 'good' live show? It's okay if you don't like them but please, don't hate on them. BTW, who did Arcade Fire know? Clearly they've become popular because of who they know.

p.s.-who, in your opionion 'pisses on them'?

So...the inference is they're getting good shows at what..colleges and independent venues and self distributing their record because they're manger works at Atlantic? Damn I wish my band was that well connected, we'd be fucking racking in the dough. Just keep on hurling mud, see what sticks.

I actually like Clap your Hands, and I think they're very catchy, so I'm happy for their success. (They're from Brooklyn after all!) I just think the hype is WAY over the top. I saw them @ Pianos (during the residency) and I found them to be kind of contrived, but hey what do I know? Their whole tour sold out, also Josh, didn't understand your last posting cause of the typos. ;) I like tons of different bands/music here in NYC. I'd type a list but whatever? Let's move on .
