new Neighborhoodies venue | Brakes
* Brakes are a UK band best known for sharing members with British Sea Power and Electric Soft Parade.
* Neighborhoodies is best known as a seller of clothes.
If you haven't heard already, Brakes are playing a free instore performance at Neighborhoodies' Brooklyn location (234 Atlantic Ave) @ 5PM today (Oct 4, 2005). It's the store's first instore, and they told me it won't be their last. I believe they can hold like 40 people.
For Brakes, it's one of only three U.S. appearances this time around. The first was last night at Pianos. The third is tonight at Pianos again (8:30 PM).
Listen to Brakes songs and watch videos at their site.

Yeah, last night was awesome. The guys are so relaxed yet so much fun. All Night Disco Party is the best song the Rapture never wrote.
I was surprised there wasn't more hype on the blogosphere, considering this was there first us show and all. I checked the ticketweb list, and I was only one of like five other people who bought advnace tickets.
I love the whole country hillbilly meets punk sound. Totally originial. And Cheney is the song of the year!!!!!!!!

A better option than going to the overpriced Decemberists show to see Scotch opener Sons & Daughters; I love their new CD (they're Nick Cave-minus-annoying), and they're headlining (with Rosebuds opening) at Northsix this weekend.

last night was one of the best shows i've seen all year. the sound and energy was fantastic. wow. i'll never understand why there isn't more hype for these bands but i've stopped worrying about it. plus i got to buy eamonn a drink at the bar and had all the members of british sea power sign a ten rouble note from the old soviet union. it was strange seeing them not on stage and trying to hit on girls who had no idea who the odd-looking british guys were. for those who enjoy rumors: hamilton told me that bsp is going to return to america after their club sea power shows in late november in the uk.

I liked last night's set too - Good bass thump and solid guitars! No pics either, I was stuck in the back. But I have pics of all the opening bands and will post soon.
