NYC venues like Webster Hall | Stereogum Married

Webster Hall

As usual, the comments of a post mentioning Webster Hall turned into a debate on the merits of the venue. Central Village recently posted that he thinks Webster Hall improved lately. I can't say I disagree, though at times it can feel a little overcrowded and hot.

Matt at Ear Farm posted his "Top 10 NYC live music venues." Webster Hall is #10, Bowery Ballroom is #1, and there's eight more in between.

Scott Stereogum got married this past weekend in a Long Island venue. Congratulations to he and his wife.

About MSG:
"Helps that there's not a bad seat in the house"

uh. maybe we should show him the seats behind the stage, the ones on top of the highest level and all the ones in the back lol

What about Southpaw, Northsix, Tonic, and The Living Room, surely these clubs deserve a mention.

That top ten list is immediately disqualified for not including Warsaw, my new favorite venue.

Or my alltime fav, the summerstage. At least he gave it an honorable mention.

And what about the Prospect Park bandshell??? That place is dope too.

way I see it I could've gone a few different ways with the list but Warsaw, Southpaw, Northsix, Tonic...they all get much respect anyway and rightly so...

anyway, thanks for checking it out and btw, if you're dumb enough to buy seats BEHIND any stage then i don't know what to tell you but as far as I have experienced even the 400's at MSG are better than similar seats in other arenas

and oh yeah, speaking of Webster Hall, their website has a new look. but what's with them showing that LCD nokia date? I was comfortable with the idea that they were seperate entites.

Nokia and Webster are seperate entities. The Bowery Presents is co-promoting the LCD show

The one show I've seen at Bowery Ballroom had bad sound. A nasty buzzing/ground loop.

Apparently that was very unusual.

I think that Bowery Ballroom's sound has improved a lot over the years. When I first started seeing shows there (the first show I saw there was back in 1999 when The Afghan Whigs played there), the sound was awful, but for virtually every other show I've ever seen there, it's been a lot better and now I would consider it one of the best-sounding venues in NYC and one of my favorite places to see a show.

Similarly, when I first went to Southpaw (I never made out it there until Clinic played there last year), the sound was abysmal, but they've improved it a lot since then and every other gig I've seen there recently has had fantastic sound. I've been there so much recently that I'm almost a regular and with good reason. It's also one of my favorite venues in NYC.
