2006 Plug Awards | Help me Nominate

Plug Awards

The 2006 Plug Independent Music Awards will take place at Webster Hall in NYC on February 2, 2006. Last year's award ceremony featured performances by Sufjan Stevens, Saul Williams, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, RJD2, Aesop Rock, & Dillinger Escape Plan. Interpol and TV on the Radio were the big winners.

This year I'm on the advisory board. I have until Sunday at midnight to submit my final nominations. (I guess albums that come out from now to December 31st don't have a chance).

HELP ME OUT. Here are the categories:
Album Of The Year
Artist Of The Year
New Artist Of The Year
Song Of The Year
Female Artist Of The Year
Male Artist Of The Year
Hip-Hop Album Of The Year
Punk Album Of The Year
Metal Album Of The Year
Electronic/Dance Album Of The Year
Americana Album Of The Year
Indie Rock Album Of The Year
DJ Album Of The Year
Avant Album Of The Year
Record Label Of The Year
Live Act Of The Year
Music Festival Of The Year
Record Producer of the Year
Music Video Of The Year
Artist Impact Award
Album Art/Packaging of the Year
Music Website Of The Year
Magazine Of The Year
Zine Of The Year
College/Non-Comm Radio Station Of The Year
Specialty Show Of The Year (Commercial Radio)
Internet Radio Station of the Year
Record Store of the Year
Music Journalist of the Year
Best Music DVD of the Year

I especially need help with the DJ, Punk, Hip-hop, and electronica categories, and remember it has to be independent. I suppose Kanye West is not eligible, and I can't vote for the Bob Dylan documentary in the DVD category. Post your suggestions in the comments. Thanks!

best music DVD has to be "Punk:Attitude", the documentary by Don Letts. Easily the best movie explaining the history and timeline of Punk ever. It's not perfect, but it's as good as it gets and is incredibly entertaining for fans of all music genres.

Best punk album is definitely not Thrice, and the best hip hop album isn't Atmosphere. Fuck that emo rap shit. The new Blackalicious album is soooooo dope. That gets my vote by far.

Latest Four tet could go for electronica.
Funky Skunk by DJ Shadow might be the best DJ album, but it probably didnt have wide enough distribution to stand a chance of winning. New Caribou might also work for best electronica.

all hip hop awards should go to Edan, period.

electronic album--isolee? jackson?

radio station--kcrw

record store--tie: turntable lab, other music, amoeba

label of the year--tie: vice/warp

btw, last year's awards were horseshit for the most part. there's no reason to give def jux an award for anything.

i agree with 'jody.' i have the new cipher cd. and honestly.. it's one of the most thoughtful and briliiant records to come out in a long time from any genre, i mean years and i'm an avid music listener......

these guys deserve all the props they can get.. oh and a little side note 'MF DOOM' is actually on the album...

but honestly, i can't say more positive things about this group. one of the few new records that have not and probably will not leave my cd rotation for months and months...
