Bruce Springsteen vs. Neil Diamond

Pitchfork gave Bruce Springsteen's 30th anniversary reissue of Born to Run a perfect 10.
The new Rick Rubin-produced Neil Diamond CD tops my list of disappointments in 2005 (and I'm not even talking about the fact that it's one of those Sony-infected CDs). Pitchfork slammed it today with a 4.1.

why does anyone give a fuck about pitchfork reviews?

Neil Diamond doesn't need to prove anything to anybody, especially Pitchfork, BUT if you consider that the whole Rick Rubin thing was supposed to make Neil cool with the kids (like Johnny Cash, Tom Jones, and Paul Anka before him), then he (or his people) are probably a little disappointed at the rating.

if kids are going to dig diamond, think he's cool, they're going dig him whether pickfork likes his new work or not. pitchfork doesn't really matter.

Kids have more fun singing Sweet Caroline than they will singing any Johnny Cash song. Not saying he's bette.r Just saying Kids have more fun singing Sweet Caroline than they will singing any Johnny Cash song.

As someone who has always appreciated Neil Diamond, I find Pitchfork's review completely off base. Think about where Neil Diamond is in his life. The songs he wrote are reflective of that; heartfelt lyrics passionately sung by Neil. I consider 12 songs a good, solid album. If you are only into indie rock and think the Arcade Fire are the greatest band ever and Wolf Parade is right behind them, you might want to skip this album.

The CD was rather clumsily streaming at Mr. Diamond's myspace page (!) for a while. I thought it was listenable, but neither trash nor triumph; perhaps P'fork is just trying to balance out the accolades.
There was one song -- I"What's It Gonna Be," I think -- that was great. But not worth infecting your PC over.

You just can't compare Springsteen and Neil Diamond. Bruce is the Boss, the ultimate showman, the best live performer ever, the heir to Elvis and Dylan. Neil Diamond is just a pop singer-songwriter who can't rock to save his life, he is just dreadful, awful, the worst performer in "The last waltz".

Neil was the best part of "The Last Waltz"-the emotional high point mist dull jam-rock.How anyone can not be moved by "Dry Your Eyes" is beyond me.
I love his new album-I can listen to "Hell Yeah","Save Me A SAturday Night" and "I'm On to You" all day.
Ofcourse Neil is popular with the kids-more then the mentioned Paul Anka and Tom Jones for godsakes.Pitchfork is not proof of anything.
Funny how it is Neil Diamond so many of the bands pitchfork likes do cover songs of (from Modest Mouse to Crooked Fingers to Johnny Cash).12 Songs is the indie-rock bible of 2005,trust me!Next year there will be countless indie bands trying to sound like "Save Me A Saturday Night".

I agree with the first comments. Why should we care about someone's dissapointments? We have enough of our own.
