EMILY HAINES IS SEXY (not actually related to this post)
Sexy Canadians

In reaction to Information Leafblower's list of top American bands, I Heart Music brings us the 33 hottest bands in Canada. Not fair....

a) Picking bands for a list would of been so much easier had I The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Wolf Parade and The New Pornographers to choose from.
b) I like the term "hottest" better than "top"

I wonder how similar a list of the 'hottest North American Bands' would be to a list of the 'hottest Canadian bands'. I wonder if any American bands besides Sufjan Stevens would make a list of the hottest bands from anywhere.

I'm glad to see Magneta Lane made the list. I bet Islands gets a better score next year. Where's The Most Serene Republic?

I voted for The Most Serene Republic but, unfortunately, no one else did. Seeing as I was the one compiling the list, I guess I could've somehow fudged the data to get TMSR on, but that didn't seem right.

Thanks for the mention!

Speaking of Magneta Lane...tomorrow I'm posting a studio session they did for CBC Radio, so if you like them you should check it out.

emily haines is repugnant and BSS is drifting closer and closer to being another insipid jam band.

1 the arcade fire
2 feist
3 death from above 1979
4 black mountain
5 circlesquare
6 the organ
7 you say party, we say die
8 jerk with a bomb
9 godspeed you black emperor
10 the new pornographers

1 - Thank you, Canucks, for the lists and all the great bands. Looks like we're just starting to scratch the surface.

2 - Does Godspeed! even exist anymore? The last thing I saw them release was that "Bush Talks" single a few years ago. The splinter groups (DMST, SilverMt.ZEtc.) come through NYC, but not G! So unless you're over-microwaving your leftovers I don't see how they could be "hot."

3 - I really hope "YSP! WSD!" gets (um...) good. Would love to see them in a steel cage death match with our own weirdly-monikered group; I'd buy the $20 T at a "You Say Party! Clap Your Hands! We Say Die! Say Yeah!" show.

There are tons of other great bands in canada. What about Les Georges Leningrad? Duchess Says? Final Fantasy? Telefauna?

By the way, Telefauna is playing the Musique Sans Frontiers show with Harlem Shakes and Lolita Bras Dec 1 at Pianos in NYC and Dec 3 at Cafe Campus in Montreal!

The dark ages are over. Canada has lifted it's weary head rebuilt, restored and reconsidered. Off to see Matthew's number 4 in Toronto momentarily, who were very impressive opening for BSS last week in Calgary.

And Sloan are l-a-m-e. I would add Chad VanGaalen and the Wet Secrets to the semi-decent list at the start of the thread.

Sloan is not lame, Chart Magazine rated Twice Removed it's best album twice in both pollings. you youngins have no idea what good low-fi pop sounds like.
