The Mountain Goats @ Knitting Factory

The mummy is actually a member of opener The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers (who I missed due to an extended stay at the Halloween parade). They joined The Mountain Goats (John Darnielle as priest & bassist as shrouded demon or something) on stage for the last few songs of The Goats' powerful set at Knitting Factory Monday night (October 31, 2005). I could have easily stayed longer than the two short encores if they would have kept playing. It was especially great to hear the new stuff since The Sunset Tree is high on my list of most-listened to CDs this year.

Yeti was at the Bowery show two days earlier

So was IWIWAUH who said, "Words cannot describe how incredible the show was. Darnielle is one hell of a performer, entertaining between songs and just amazing live"

I was at this show, I wish I had known you were there. Not my favorite Mountain Goats show, but it was very fun (aren't all MG shows?), and seeing TPaToADB is always a wonderful bonus. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll buy you a drink.

what was up with grizzly bear? do i just not get their music or was their drummer wasted? it was like he was playing different songs and the others were just chanting while some weird roadie was trying to take his pants off and play random clarinet notes at the same time. tough act to follow and jon definitely started slow but the last forty minutes or so was absolutely incredible, especially the audience energy (with the exception of the jackass that was pumping the satan sign during every song) and that he played one of my favorite songs as the second encore.

granted I came to see grizzly bear and thought their set was great, I don't understand why the mountain goats are loved so much. I found his set to be really long and after awhile really really boring. missed tears and prayers, but my girlfriend didn't and she said they were sort of run of the mill

Which venue would be better to see the MG in Oct., Bowery or Studio B?
