CBGB Closing Halloween 2006
"CBGB, which gave bands like the Ramones and Talking Heads a start, will leave its home on the Bowery next Halloween. Kristal is hoping to move the club to a new spot on the lower East Side and has looked at several spaces." [Daily News]
"The club reached a deal with the Bowery Residents' Committee, a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless and has a long-term lease on the property, to remain at 313 and 315 Bowery through Oct. 31, both sides announced." [The NY Times]

"Closing"? Doesn't seem quite an accurate header - More like moving somewhere else come next October. Crazy that Mayor Bloomberg has gotten involved in this, with city officials helping out to find Hilly a new place. I bet Bloomberg never set foot in CBs....Must be the help of the Tourism Office.

i don't see why anyone would give a shit that they're relocating, because it's not like that's the original location "which gave bands like the Ramones and Talking Heads a start." If anything, it should be better because i can't conceive of a worse shithole than what it presently is.

I was there during the mid 80's. Video taped a lot of bands then...I remember...dirty but was cool & was a chance to play for hundreds of band...surely a tradition that must remain...
