Happy New Year Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
As Central Village pointed out, tickets to the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (+ The National & Dr. Dog) New Years Eve show at Irving Plaza are selling for lots of $$ now. This week's Time Out cover story won't help those still hoping for a miracle.

CONGRATS ON A GOOD 2005 CYHSY
* The 18th best album at Pitchfork
* The 4th best album at WOXY
* The 50th best album at Stylus
* The 13th best album at Tiny Mix Tapes
* The 5th best album at ComeMachineGlow
* The 17th best album at Muzzle of Bees
* The 4th best album at Stereogum
* The 5th best album to the Merry Swankster
* The 8th best album based on overall rankings at Metacritic
* Unranked at Chart Attack
Though I may not compile an actual 2005 album list, you probably already know they are one of my faves too.

For all the talk about New Yorkers being jaded, I've never lived in a city that buys into hype the way people living in New York buy into hype. Who would pay $100 for CYHSY? I mean i like the album and all, but 1.) They really aren't that great of a live band and 2.) They are a local band.
Posted by paul | December 27, 2005 6:49 PM
wow, that is INSANE
i swear though it's mostly jersey teens paying for that shit, or people that just read about it on the cover or something
the amount of attention this band gets make absolutely no sense to me
none

I'm one of the few people not to have posted a list yet, but I'm certain that when I do, CYHSY will be top 5, if not top 3...

They were horrible on Conan last week.
The band looked bald and bored(boring indeed).

the music is good. and the band is fun live. nothing ground breaking, but hey what is these days?
$100 per ticket???....there's also a band called the National that are playing that night, you might have heard of them. they rock.

A Clap Your Hands Say Meh ticket isn't even worth $1.

but i'm sure a muse ticket would be worth it, wouldn't it?

who's the poor shmoe who got his face obliterated by the address label on the TONY cover?
probably the drummer
we get no respect....
Posted by daveB | December 28, 2005 3:09 PM
not the drummer, the keys/guitarist. happily, his face is untouched on newstand copies.

i like the record. i think there are some great songs on there. i read an interview with the singer where he tried to say he doesn't listen to "modern" music, though. what an asshole.
plus, i bet they're real boring live.
that's that.
oh, also, they're all pushing thirty and i think they live in park slope. lame!
Posted by a. | December 29, 2005 1:36 PM
What if -just imagine now- he was a folk singer/songwriter from Philly who had a few demos, got a band to play with on them, and just played around dinky clubs in New York for the hell of it.
Just because we ascribe certain sounds being influeced by "modern music" (what's that? Linkin Park?), it doesn't neccessarily mean Alec is. The rest of the band is far more in touch with the current music scene than Alec. Read any interview. They are painful because he is in fact pretty boring by bloggers standards. It doesn't make him an "asshole" though.

They suck! They're great! He's an asshole! He's a nice guy! They live in Park Slope--lame! They live in Brooklyn--they're cool! They're bald! They're cute! They don't deserve all the press they get! They work really hard and deserve all the press they get! BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!!!!!!

>>oh, also, they're all pushing thirty and i think they live in park slope. lame!
aren't we all "pushing thirty"? what does that have to do with anything? Bob Dylan is pushing seventy. what an asshole.
i dont know where they live but what is wrong with park slope?
Posted by Anonymous | December 29, 2005 3:49 PM
What's so lame about living in Park Slope? And please, oh please, don't say that if you live in dreaded Willamsburg.
And pushing 30 is old? Wow.
I hope that was a joke. Please please please.
Posted by Josh in Translation | December 29, 2005 3:55 PM
my friends says that dylan is a fan
Posted by dale jenkins | December 29, 2005 7:40 PM
OF COURSE that was a joke! boy...
Posted by a. | December 30, 2005 10:48 AM
but it's no joke that pushing 70 makes bob dylan ultra lame. he should have died in that motorcycle accident after blonde on blonde came out instead of ruining his legacy with christianity, grateful dead collaborations, the traveling wilburys and mtv unplugged. i wouldn't even consider going to see a bob dylan concert today. so whatever.
