Nellie McKay vs Columbia Records | Nellie Wins

Nellie Mckay

Nellie McKay has a new album coming out on Columbia Records on January 3, 2006. At a recent show in California, "the 20-year-old singer, known for her sophisticated pop-cabaret songs, social activism and emotional demeanour, told the audience that she wants her upcoming album, Pretty Little Head, to contain 23 songs and run 65 minutes, but that the label plans to release a 16-song, 48-minute version. She encouraged her fans to write to Columbia in protest, and spelled out the e-mail address of Columbia Records Group Chairman Will Botwin. After berating an audience member who told her to stop talking and sing, McKay appeared to break down in tears...." [The Star Online]

AND: Nellie won.

and the following people were at her recent Mercury Lounge show: The Music Slut, GOPster and Heartonastick.

I'm glad for her.

I'm glad for her. Hopefully the extra 7 songs don't suck as hard as the studio version of "Cupcake" that leaked on fluxblog. Her live version was better.

Did you read that article? The writer called her "tempermental." What the fuck makes her tempermental?!? Because she wants her album released the way SHE intended it?!? Asshole....

I'll be interested to see when it comes out now. The 3rd is out for sure. It's been removed from Amazon and Sony's store page for awhile now...

She left Columbia/Sony. http://www.latimes.com/business/custom/cotown/la-fi-mckay20dec20,1,7784158.story?coll=la-headlines-business-enter&ctrack=1&cset=true
So she'll be releasing it on the internet supposedly in January, and proper release maybe February to coincide with Threepenny Opera.

Anyway, the 16 track PLH advance that leaked rules! Different from Get Away From Me, more show tuney. Anyway, took a couple listens but it has grown on me. And probably will too on others. I'm looking forward to the 7 extra tracks, plus the "Rumor Has It" tracks!
