this is a great way for them to sell these shows out. But I am still only going to tomorrow's show

As of 45 min ago, Other Music still had hard tix for $26 each for tonight, if you wanna save on fees (as well as for tomorrow).

That's a good way to get people to a Monday show. I would go, if I lived in the city.

Sufjan opening for someone else? Sounds rather bizarre. Stage setup is going to cause massive delays at this show betw. Calexico and Sufjan. All for a shortened opening-act set? Hey, why don't they all go on together at the end? And surprise guests Polyphonic Spree!
I am holding out for Sufjan headlining at Allen Room, and Calexico headlining ant Joe's. Would love to see Iron & Wine w/Calexico, but this is going to be a fiasco...

...unless Sufjan is appearing solo. That would actually be cool. Any more specifics, BV?

Why would this be a fiasco?

at sundays Calexico/Iron & Wine they shared all the equipment so there were little delays. I would hope Sufjan is playing with a small band for this show.

my guess is he will be solo.

sufjan played only two songs. first it was himself with a female singing back up, then joey from calexico joined them for the second. also, it was not a fiasco, but i was a bit disappointed that they didn't play the entire ep like they did at other shows. that was what i went for.

Considering that he wasn't part of the "official" lineup, it was a pleasant treat. I wish more shows would have guests like that.

Dylan - I think blah is talking about I&W and Calexico's ep...

BV, as usual you are the best NEWS SOURCE. Once I saw Sufjan was appearing, it gave me a kick to go. Even though he only played 2 songs (Casimir Pulaski and Godbird) it was great to see him (first time). Calexico set was great, Iron and Wine set intense but overlong, combined set was everything I expected and more-- the first encore was "Ain't No Sunshine" with added backup singers....they did NEARLY every song from the EP if not every song...
It was very hushed when I&W were hushed--thank goodness--but in between songs there was annoying frat-boy heckling from the back-- what is with these people? They were teasing Sam about his scarf and yelling stupid shit (I love guitars! etc.) Sam was really not amused. You bring people the gift of incredibly gorgeous music and they yell stupid shit at you? I don't get it.

2 songs??? wow i am glad I decided i couldnt afford to go even though i'm a huge sufjan fan. that would have been very dissappointing

I was pleased by the Sufjan bonus. He should have come out to play at the end. What a treat that could have been -- Sam, Joey and Sufjan!
I happily claimed a spot on the left side of Webster where they have the platforms -- good to sit/sprawl out during those Iron & Wine songs. It was all beautiful music, but I&W was a bit tough to take during such a long evening.
The opener, the Ebony Hillbillies, were cute and skilled, but unnecessary. There were enough bands as it was, and giving Salvador Duran his own set in the middle was probably more than enough in terms of extraneous musical support.

Frat dude really was annoying. He was standing at the bar and everytime he made a comment everyone around there looked pissed at him.
I'm short so I like standing on the platforms in the back behind the bar. There's a few niches in the wall that make good seats too. Great view of everything going on. Can watch all the drunk couples making out too. It also doesn't seem to get as crowded as Bowery Ballroom which is cool.
