UK Musicians Predict the Next Big Thing

Guys from Athlete and The Go! Team both think Architecture in Helsinki will be the next big thing. The Magic Numbers predict Absentee, Arctic Monkey Alex Turner says Milburn, and The Bravery gives props to Matisyahu. The Guardian asked those bands, The Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, The Kills, the Subways, Tom Vek, Maximo Park, Kano and others who will be the hottest bands next year. (via LHB)

Does anyone (other than the industry) really care who's the "next big thing"?

Big Mazel to the Bravery for giving Matisyahu his props. I had to double take when I saw a promo spot for him on MTV.

Arctic Monkeys...I'm hoping they have a great 2006.

Tons of people care about "the next big thing." Why else are NYC venues packed for young bands who have no sales and tons of buzz?

I'd be very surprised if Architecture in Helsinki comes anywhere close to the next big thing. Never have I been less impressed with a buzz band. Sounds like they're coming from the mid '90s, when barely being able to play an instrument and sounding like you habitually skipped band practice were some kind of badges of honor.

So NYC venues are packed because people only care about the "next big thing"? That's a pretty shallow view of the scene.

So what's your view of the 'scene' dirt? why do you go see relatively 'unknown' bands?
