Calexico @ Joe's Pub, NYC | pics
Calexico played an early and late show at Joe's Pub in NYC Tuesday night (January 24, 2006). These photos are from the late show.
The just-over-an-hour performance was so-so. The first half was kinda slow. The second half picked up. I have better memories of their show at Bowery in 2004. The crowd at Joe's Pub didn't seem disappointed though (maybe it was me, maybe it was the large number of people cramped on a small stage surrounded by people eating). I still wish I caught them on tour with Iron & Wine (heartonastick did). You can download Calexico at the Archive.

My wife and I were at the early show. They were actually livelier than I expected them to be, after I heard the stream from the Webster Hall show with Iron & Wine, that sounded way too mellow and downbeat for my liking.
I loved the song they did with the Frenchies, and my only disappointment was that they didn't play Quattro, which is my favorite song of theirs.
But altogether a very enjoyable evening!

I went to the early show. I had a great time, but I think it had more to do with the group of friends I was with. That isn't to say the music wasn't good it just wasn't the best I have seen Calexico. I will post pictures and a review on my site shortly.
