Pitchfork handed down a 5.9 to the new Strokes album today. If 5.9 means take-it-or-leave-it, that's pretty much how I feel too. Playlouder LOVES it. Slant is also right in the middle. LISTEN TO THE WHOLE ALBUM @ AOL MUSIC. Buy First Impressions of Earth at Insound.
King Kong was awesome. See it while it's in the theaters. LISTEN TO THE SOUNDTRACK @ AOL MUSIC. Buy the CD at Amazon.

Sorry, but King Kong sucked. Visually impressive, sure, but really pathetically silly as far as the story went. The "love story" between Kong and Watts was a complete farce. Cheesy for the sake of being cheesy. The original (terrible special effects and all) was way better.

I listened to the Strokes' album today and thought it was good not great. Definitely above average, and I'd take a mediocre Strokes album over a good album by many other bands. The amount of guitar noodling was a surprise.

You can also stream the Strokes album this whole month at radio-indie-pop.com, if you don't want to use the AOLMusic interface for some reason. Just go there and click the "Album of the Month" button.
