MIGUEL MENDEZ & FRIENDS @ KNITTING FACTORY

"The third set of Miguel Mendez's residency at the Knitting Factory was Wednesday down in the tap bar. Miguel and the band started off by saying this set was going to be different: 'I have a f*cking beard. We have to play at least one acoustic set.' This probably could have been predicted considering his Californian roots, wavy long hair, and flannel shirt attire (Damon McMahon also played a good acoustic set earlier that evening wearing a flannel shirt). 'Drinking Beers' and 'You Got Me All Wrong' were both highlights. The show could have slipped into the vortex of the perpetual jam, but thankfully those moments were held in check by the poppy structure of Miguel's songs. His hushed voice is a reason alone to go to his show; it is both drifting and tranquil. Though an acoustic anomaly in Miguel's residency at the Knitting Factory, the show was good regardless. If you have not had a chance to see Miguel Mendez live, you have another chance on February 1st where he will be in the main space."
