Mooney Suzuki sent this e-mail out:
Just to make things clear ahead of time so nobody feels ripped-off - this is NOT a Mooney Suzuki "secret show". "The Patchwork Family" is not the band proper but Sammy and Graham and friends having a regular ol' hootenany... Expect something a bit different than the Mooney Suzuki.

Ticketweb still says Mooney Suzuki. Sin-e's website implies the same.

(thx Pete)

Sin-e wouldn't have to mislead its patrons if it wasn't the shittiest venue in the city.

TREASURES WERE SWEET! LEFT PATCHWORKS SET MIDWAY.

Yea, the Asswork Family is a joke. If that is new material for an album it will be worse than ALive and Amplified. Teasures of the Sea were awesome. They saved the night for me.

Mooney's new tunes sounded like bad 50's karaoke music. I don't even understand what the fuss is about to begin with. The songs on Alive & Amplified were written by The Matrix, the songwriting team that wrote Avril levigne's album. These dudes are posers.

Sammy from Moonies posted this on their site today:

"I’d like to try to clear up the confusion regarding “The Patchwork Family”. First, I’d like to apologize to anyone who paid on Tues expecting to see a Mooney Suzuki show. We thought it was clear to Sin-e that “The Patchwork Family” was not meant to be a “secret” Mooney Suzuki show but something altogether different. Now we have come to learn that the venue and some of the other acts on the bill had been promoting the show as a Mooney Suzuki gig. If you feel you were cheated with a “bait and switch”, we are very sorry, and while Sin-e is unlikely to endorse my opinion on this, I think it would have been fair to ask for your money back.

So what is “The Patchwork Family”?

In our early days playing to small rooms of friends and die-hard fans, we had plenty of opportunities to experiment and allow the material to evolve. Also, our close supporters’ feedback helped shape the kind of band we became and the kind of music we made. We were looking for a way to give our new songs the benefit of that process, so we decided to try it as “The Patchwork Family”.

In this regard, the show Tuesday was a great success. We’ve already gotten a lot of valuable feedback, covering the spectrum from “stellar” to “The Asswork Family”.

So if it appeals to you to join us in “workshopping” some new potential Mooney Suzuki tunes, please join “The Patchwork Family” next Tues and come expecting a causal and informal evening of mistakes, missteps, and imperfections…

However, if this does not sound like your thing, save your $$$ to see the Mooney Suzuki proper performing Jan 25 at the Shindig! party in NYC and come expecting to have your face set on fire with sheer rock’n’roll magma…plus open bar all night!"

"asswork family"...apparently Sammy has read this blog!
