NME & Guardian declare Arctic Monkeys album PERFECT
Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is the name of the forthcoming album by Arctic Monkeys. It's out on 02/21 in the US, but much sooner in the UK. 'Work or Duty' links to NME's 10/10 and the Guardian's 5/5.

I've heard a few tracks from the new album: They just sound badly recorded and terribly produced unlike the demo's which I really loved. I haven't heard any of the new tracks in new re-recorded style but unless they are absolutely senstational there's no way on Earth I would give the album 10/10 - surely it isn't perfection? The tracks I heard were not good.

NME is too invested in helping to hype up the Arctic Monkeys to back out and say the earliest demos were the best. Listening to the leaks, I must say they are anything but perfection. But to give credit when due, I think they are a band best experienced live.

This band is just terrible.

I see the backlash has begun.
Of course the album could have been better. I still think it is outstanding. The Arctic Monkeys have about 6 songs which are as good as any British music in the last 5 years or so.
8/10
I was tempted to give it 9/10 just for the mention of Frank Spencer.

Mike-
Are you hearing the same album I'm hearing? I actually think the record does a fine job of balancing sonic cleanliness with the energy and spirit of the demos. And, yeah this backlash is ridiculous. It's not like the band are orchestrating the overexuberance.

Not a single good song.

IM FROM ENGLAND AND U DONT NO WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!! they are the best band this country has produced in years!! alot of songs were made months before getting a deal and i personally think the demos are better than the singles that are on the released album but if theyre so crap then why are all gigs sold out in the UK and the release date been brought forward due to the high demand. alex turner is a legend!!

seen this band live and they are something else. The lyrics are as good as anyone has produced in years and they have a born rockstar in alex turner. This album is immense fact !

The Monkeys are the best band to emerge out of the UK, possibly ever. I'm 14, and live in a crap dead-end town with no where to go and nothing to do. My biggest passion is music, and the Monkeys make music that tells the people who live in places like me that YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS LIKE BASHING YOU HEAD ON A BRICK WALL WHEN YOU LOOK AROUND YOU!

But Maddie, tell us how you really feel.

If you dont like the arctic monkeys on musical grounds, you're probably not that keen on the stone roses, oasis, the smiths, the sex pistols or the north of england. In this category your probably part of the indie elitist group with a pretentious attitude and could really do with a right good kicking. Or you're a wanker (the two are not mutually exclusive)

This record is the musical equivalent of a retarded dog farting blood into a discarded candy bar wrapper.

Writers of the NME voted the best 100 British albums of all time, and the Arctic Monkeys album, which came out like 3 days ago, was voted at number 5. Whether or not you like the album, this is pretty damn ridiculous...

Agreed, Shane. I just dropped by to sound off on that. Here's the top ten for anyone who's interested. I don't know if I could handle the whole hundred.

lead, mercury, flouride, chlorine. these blokes just can't make a cohesive song but they have darn good lobbyists!

I'm not getting it. Why not just go buy an old Bowie album from the early 70's? It's exactly the same thing but at least he did it first. Are people so clueless about rock history that this band actually sounds original to them? Sorry but it's already been done, folks. Here's a tip for all of you who are in love with Arctic Monkey, Franz Ferdinand, and all of the current "new wave" bands. There was once a decade called the 70's. Look into it. You might be surprised what you find.

err...
I like these guys.
I feel a little guilty for it.
But... a yorkshire voice/accent and sensibility in modern pop music has been needed for such a long time, and they do it a whole lot better than kaiser chiefs.
Not worthy of "best band in the world eva!" tag, but NME say that about any band from UK to sell out any shows and records in yank land! (i stopped buying it/reading it years ago).
Just so long as they keep the music from their own back yard and keep rockin out audiences then I'm more than happy for these plucky lads from Sheffield.
