Selling out Bowery Ballroom | A Highlight for Maximo Park

A show at Bowery Ballroom in NYC is often the first time a band headlines to a sold-out crowd of 550 people, or it might just be the first time they're doing so in the United States of America (Bowie, Byrne, Reed and/or Sufjan might be there too). A perk of attending these shows is getting to experience the band when they're in a really, really, really good mood. One of my favorite concert moments in recent history was watching Colin Meloy during the encore of the Decemberists' first (sold out) Bowery Ballroom show. He really seemed to be glowing as he played 'I Was Meant For the Stage'. ANYWAY, SPIN recently interviewed UK band Maximo Park:

So what's been going on for you in the past year, since you were featured as Band of the Day?

Paul Smith: Well we've just been playing live quite a lot, and the album came out. We've had four top 20 hits, and people kept wanting us to play bigger venues. The passion that people have brought to our concept is just incredible. The things that stick out are playing in Tokyo and selling out the Bowery [Ballroom in New York City].
