Spinto Band | Signed?, Opening for Arctic Monkeys

The Spinto Band

I saw the Spinto Band for the first time recently. They didn't really do it for me. Luckily for them, my feeling is not universal. Coolfer reports they've signed to a major label in the UK, and Ticketweb reports they're opening for 2006's hottest UK band Arctic Monkeys @ Webster Hall on March 25th.

Perhaps because it's used in a Sears commercial. You know, the one that goes "the softer side of Sears?"

j/k!

I didn't think they were all that great when I saw them either (I think it was the same show, Vegan). Still, since then, I got their album and found many a good song they sing.

agreed -- they aren't as impressive as I had anticipated live. still, they write some pretty damn quirky pop songs.

i'd cut the boys some slack performance-wise because, well, they really are just boys (some of them) and a year ago were still obscure home-recordists fooling around in a basement in rural pennsylvania.

they do have ample recording experience, though. i've had the pleasure of following their progress for seven years:

(yeah, it's true, they named an album after me. a weird obsession.)

trivia: before they were the spinto band, many of them were in a group with a highly original name: http://www.demouniverse.com/search.php?searchtype=artistsearch&searchstring=beer

Thanks for the link, I really had a fun time with that performance. The guys were a blast and I've had the pleasure of seeing them several times now. Their live sets may not be perfect, but I think that they are great fun.

I got their 7" UK single for "Brown Boxes" (with 3D glasses!) before the holidays and it had a Virgin Records copyright. Don't know if that is who they signed with or not. The full-length has yet to get released over there, but I'd bet it will do much better overseas than it has here.

We played the hell out of "Nice and Nicely Done" and it even made our Best of 2005 countdown, but it didn't seem to get the attention it deserved elsewhere.

Dude. I live next to the rural Pennsylvania basement. Gotta shout my love for the spinto band.
