Feist @ Webster Hall

This was my third time seeing Feist live, and after her band-less opening set at Bowery Ballroom, my expectations weren't very high. My only hope going in was that Feist would sing at least one duet with opener, and fellow Broken Social Scenester, Jason Collett. Not only did it happen, the show was everything I always hoped a Feist show would be. The band, energy, audience participation, song selection, etc, etc. was all great. The last song of the encore was the duet and the highlight of the show - Feist and Jason sang Broken Social Scene's "Major Label Debut" (on the same stage BSS played with Emily Haines and Lisa Lobsinger only three weeks earlier). Closet OC Fan has the audio.

"At one point in the show, she asked a broken hearted girl to come up to the stage and had her dance with Jason Collett while singing Let It Die. Then asked the audience to dance like it was prom night since she wanted to be Michael J Fox." [Closet OC Fan]

"She spun stories and called for audience participation; adoring fans were ready to join her at the slightest invitation. And she kept coming up with musical surprises, from the full-band buildup on the Ron Sexsmith song 'Secret Heart' to a tap dancer showing up during a wistful song written for Blossom Dearie, 'Now at Last.'" um -- i like her bandless at bowery just fine (she does a hell of a job commanding a crowd, even alone), but like her w/ a band too. this time i was mystified by her ponytail: made me realize she has as much hair-metal powerballad in her as she does high disco balladry. that tapdancer was unreal.

mmmm..... flugelhorn. it was so CD 101.9, but in a good way. i've heard singers loop vocals before, but she had upwards of 8, 9 parts going at once that had really, really interesting harmonies. bravo. and did anyone else see her wail on the drums at the Jason Collett show one day prior? girl does it all.
