It's about time someone actually gave that M83 record an award.
And I am overjoyed at the hipster rebellion towards this year's Coachella. More room in the front for me, bitches.

I can't find it now, but I swear I read a notice on djshadow.com that said, on that bootleg Bangkok disc, only the first twenty or so minutes were actually Shadow and to not buy it. Did anyone else see that?
Posted by frank | February 3, 2006 8:02 AM
so, does pitchfork WANT everyone to hate them? what a douche bag that guy was last night.
Posted by lauren | February 3, 2006 8:40 AM
myspace...best music site?! ...i hate everyone.
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 9:03 AM
good lord that award show sounds absolutely retarded.
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 9:04 AM
who was the surprise guest?
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 9:05 AM
You'll always be my Music Website of the Year
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 9:07 AM
what did the pitchfork guy do?
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 9:08 AM
thanks, and there were no surprise guests.
Nick Sylvester from Pitchfork read from the New Yorker when he was supposed to be presenting his award. Aziz eventually pulled him away from the mic and finished the presentation:
http://noonecaresaboutyourblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/pitchforkmediacom-proves-equally.html
Earlier in the night, Langhorne Slim and Rob Crowe presented best female artist. Langhorne (purposely) announced that Cocorosie won and proceeded to walk off stage. Rob corrected him as "Neko Case" flashed across the screen.
Also, Madonna made out with Emiliana Torrini.

Ohhhh Nick. I'm sure there will be an update on RiffRaff soon about how all the performers sucked. Not to mention all the winners, nominees, sponsors, presenters, bar staff, security, venues,... music in general, life, New York, the world, et cetera ad infinitum.

You was robbed, BV.
Posted by Mike Neuman | February 3, 2006 10:34 AM
Myspace.com is a music site?
Posted by dacaplan | February 3, 2006 10:40 AM
unclear if they're a music site, but clear they were a paying sponsor of the Plug Awards
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 10:46 AM
it's great that 'indie rock' has become just as boring as the grammys. IT'S REALLY GREAT.
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 11:21 AM
seriously man, makes me want to get the fuck out of nyc and move to Teluride. this awards show is a fucking joke, im embarassed to say i like indie rock. from now on its strictly Zydeco for me.
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 11:36 AM
yeah, i hear all the great zydeco bands left new orleans for telluride
Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2006 12:03 PM
How was The National's set?
Posted by Nineteen-ninety-never | February 3, 2006 12:18 PM
Since this is supposed to be an awards show for "indie rock" and not the Grammys (where stuffy non-"indie rock" bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs get nominated), shouldn't attendees sort of expect and demand that people do things like read from the New Yorker instead of present an award? Not that it's ha-ha funny or anything, but it makes the whole thing at least seem like it's not just another music biz assfuck. Plus, who knew Nick Sylvester was so dreamy?
Posted by will | February 3, 2006 12:22 PM
who accepted the award on behalf of CYHSY? Does anyone else feel bad that the NATIONAL didn't win anything? I do. I feel very bad. It's my fault maybe.
Posted by carved out of gabe | February 3, 2006 12:28 PM
"When the President Talks to God" for song of the year? That's hipster-irony right?
Posted by Logan | February 3, 2006 12:35 PM
When the president talks to god as the best song of the year, are you fucking kidding me? I love Bright Eyes, and I hate Bush as much as anyone but.. that was NOwhere near the best song of the year. Ridiculous.
Posted by natalie | February 3, 2006 3:44 PM
Also, how is Bright Eyes "artist of the year" if sufjan is male artist of the year? Aren't they both eligible for that category? Weird.

this list of music winners has driven me to the point of disgust...a job as a prominent independent journalist, musician, blogger, etc. is to shed light on bands who wouldn't normally have the spotlight, not to re-reward bands that pitchfork dropped to their knees for a few albums ago...has everyone lost sight of what it actually means to be a struggling artist...while the masses decide whether bloc party of sufjan stevens should receive some redundant award, some kid in a garage is creating the album of 2006...poingant enough to read the new yorker...now actually do something about it. aaahhh, but there's the catch...anyone want to start taking bets on when the indie rock bubble is going to burst?

my apologies for fucking up this post...its quite obvious i never posted on these new-fangled "blogs" you kids are all chatting about...

Anyone going to M. Ward tonight? I've been looking forward to this one since I missed him in Coney Island last summer.
Posted by nineteen-ninety-never | February 3, 2006 4:31 PM
WTF?block party?thats a joke right?DIW so should have won zine of the year and what new artist of the year goes to CYHSY?i mean their great and all but come on!plus i didn't know myspace was a music site.how did pitchfork not get that one?hurray for animal collective though.and just because oberst puts out 2 albums in one year does not mean hes the best.this is a big disappointment

Whatever jerks picked Dangerdoom for best Hip Hop artist of the year are making me feel horribly bad about my white boy complexion.
Thanks Plug Awards for making it look like "indie" kids wouldn't know good beats and rhymes from their own asses.
No wonder Pitchfork was crapping on this show. They knew what was up.

I wish ^you^ would choose another name to comment with. All your negativity is tainting my name. I really don't want to have to start commenting with a different name. grrrr

In the pfork guy's defense, the pit bull article in the New Yorker is pretty interesting.

just a note, seems to be some question about this. voting is done by music fans who log onto the site around the country. PLUG actually (for better or worse...probably better) doesn't interfere with the voting. it's all about people coming together and hopefully raising the profile of the Black Mountains, Chad VanGaalens, Serena Maneeshs, Hanne Hukkelbergs, Jose Gonzalezes, Six Organs Of Admittances, Langhorn Slims who feel almost like household names to all of us, but who deserve to be heard by many more ears than ours. thanks to all who got involved this year

If you are really interested in new music that is cutting edge, vibrant and off the major label radar–don’t turn to PLUG.
They are a “me-too” organization at best who regurgitates what all the other indie fans, radio stations, blogs, websites, venues all ready know. Look at the nominees and winners–see any surprises? No.
Just below the skin, PLUG is no better than the Grammy’s that they profess to disdain–what indie fan needs an awards show to tell them who’s hot and who’s not? No thanks.
