I'm not the only one who loves Destroyer's Rubies

NEW ISSUE OF FADER
Destroyer

"There have been giddy rumblings around the internets these days that Destroyer’s Rubies just might be Dan Bejar’s breakthrough album – the indierock success that had been promised by critics following the almost flawless Streethawk: A Seduction, but that was skillfully dodged by Bejar with the equally ‘difficult’ This Night and Your Blues." [Popsheep]

"But the real reason this album is going to be embraced by many, many people outside that inner circle is that it's so luxuriantly musical, with the full potlatch-prodigiousness of textures and harmonies found on This Night - but where that album was eager to just throw all this music on a bonfire, here it's built up and sculpted." [Zoilus]

"Destroyer's Rubies makes the kids in my classroom so happy. I play it before the morning meeting and half the class sings along to some of the songs, in particular painter in your pocket. I've been teaching kindergarten for about 4 years now and no album has brought such harmony to the morning activities. Thanks Destroyer." [imeldasblues in I Love Music]

"Certainly, you're sick of my Destroyer posts by now" [The Catbirdseat]

"'Destroyer's Rubies' is the best thing I've heard in a long time. I'm a bit obsessed." [Thomas Bartlett]

This may the first time I've encountered an album that's approved by both indie bloggers and kindergarteners. (Did I spell that right?)

john darnielle raved about it on his blog back in december before it was cool:

I've already forgotten about this album. He's good, but I don't hear standout, "breakthrough" songs here.

it will def garner him more attention than any past record, even if it's not my own personal favorite of his (it's up there tho). musically it's top notch, but his vocals and a lot of the "lalalala" type melodies do kinda get under my skin at times, that and his delivery when he tries to cram too many words in a short amount of time.

but yeah, musically the album is top notch. last song def has a lot of "Down By The River" feel to it.

He's already a major part of the NP's, it's not like he hasn't had success already.

Anyone ever heard Robyn Hitchcock before? This guy's a total Robyn ripoff. Weak. Listen to Globe of Frogs.
