Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ Maxwell's, NJ | pics

Yeah Yeah Yeahs played the first of their mini-small-club-tour shows at Maxwell's in NJ last night (Feb 23, 2006). Blood on the Wall opened, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs took the stage about 10:30. They were finished with their 2 song encore around 11:30. To quote Karen O, they played "90% new material". I liked it, though general consensus among the many fellow-show-goers on the PATH train ride home leaned toward disappointment with the set list. Overall rating = thumbs up - left me wanting more.
Imaad Wasif didn't play on all songs. They played "Maps" acoustic style. Maxwell's stage is low to the ground. I wasn't really close to the stage so I didn't even know Karen O was wearing tights. Chris has another detailed review.

wow, disappointed with the setlist?....3 songs off Fever and 2 from the Ep, and I thought the new stuff was great. It's too bad that everyone didn't enjoy it as much as I.

I wasn't disappointed, except maybe that they didn't play more songs.

Wait, so the new stuff sounds bad? or you were just disappointed that it was a short set?

I liked the new stuff. They were just disappointed they didn't hear more songs they already knew.

the first song was awesome. i would've liked to hear 3 or 4 more old ones though. 13 songs is a pretty short setlist, but i kinda had the feeling it would be. small venue, warm up show, etc.

saw them last night at bowery. really disappointed. It was a double edged sword...you get to see a great band play a really small venue (a pro), but they play mostly new songs which you're hearing for the first time which takes away from the show (a con). I enjoy going to shows to see songs I know where I can get into them more, but thats just me. IDK.

ItÒs simple but effective. They also do other genres. Adolescent poetry is worth a look.

With a turn she left the blushing girl at the counter, but not before saying in a reassuring tone, ÓYou really should take him up on the offer. He is very good at itÔ

the simple fact that i couldnt get tickets for those show quite nearly ruined my year.
Maxwell's is my all time favorite venue.
