Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC | pics

NICK ZINNER TAKES A PICTURE
Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ Bowey Ballroom

Yeah Yeah Yeahs played the first of two NYC small-club shows at Bowery Ballroom in NYC Friday night (Feb. 24, 2006). Saturday night they're at Bowery again, and then a tour.

Bowery Ballroom is such a great venue, and maybe for that reason alone I thought this show was so much better than the one at Maxwell's the night before - better sound, higher stage. The Modern Age thinks Maxwell's was better. Amrit reviewed the show for Stereogum. Eric has another review. Sideproject was there too.

it was an OK show. With exceeded security quick to kick people off for taking pics. There was some faggot allowed to take pics as he had a security guard clear his way around the crowd.

I had tix for both nights but sold the sat. nite ones cuz there better things to do anyway.

Can someone provide a review (or links to) of Saturday's show.
I was there Friday and I think SideProject's review is probably the most accurate, with the exception that the crowd was not into it at all, very lame, so I am wondering how
Saturday night went. The Friday show was good, the new material was also good, but maybe the new music and a rookie crowd just did not allow for any energy between band and crowd, or maybe it was way too short. Hopefully the YYYs still have the hunger, but Friday night seemed as if the YYYs have become the karen o show with the rest of the band acting like a back up act and karen just going through the motions. Which is weird, since the new tunes are good and sound like they can rock, but the show was definitely an industry showcase mailed-in effort.

Maybe the lack of enthusiasm was due to the fact that many were dying to hear more tracks from Fever, and people were shouting out "Y Control!" or "Rich!", etc.

The new songs did sound great, but maybe the lack of familiarity was partly to blame as well...it's kinda like the crowd was still getting a feel for the new stuff as many people were probably hearing most of the songs for the first time.

Completely agreed! Any band going out there and playing a show with songs first/second time performed especially before the album comes out is always taking a risk and in my opinion is very brave and should be commended. But if the YYYs fanbase is so strong, the crowd could've been more receptive. I don't buy the fact that they were intently listening. This crowd was weird and the band did not make any real attempt to connect the new material to the fans Friday night. But hey there's still a full year's of touring to happen I'm sure they will get their legs under them! See you at Roseland.

Saturday's show was great. I knew before going to the show it was going to be mostly new stuff. But the band was having a great time as was the crowd. People were yelling out I love you Karen during the slow songs. except for a few drunk-fucks, the show was great. Heard the songs I wanted, Maps, Y Control, Tick-Tick-Tick, etc.........

I concur with James. I was at the Saturday show as well and it was great. I didn't have especially high expectations because of the mixed reviews, but they were really tight and the crowd was totally eating it up. In fact, I've never seen a more receptive crowd under the circumstances (mostly brand-new material). Oh and the new stuff sounded great, "Maps" was incredible and the band played great, too. Drummer Brian Chase is a monster and the real hero of that band, though it's hard to take your eyes off Karen.

I was lucky enough to get into all 3 shows and in terms of performance and the bands mood, the Friday show was the best.

But I cannot express strongly enough how bad the crowd were at both Bowery shows. Fucking LES and Williamsburg mafia. Great band, great new songs, and the best venue in the country...and no dancing, jumping or smiling. So very lame.

The contrast with the energy up front at Maxwells was stark (plus they had 2.50 Yuenglings...yay!). Never thought I'd say this, but Hoboken rocks!!

So are cameras allowed at the Bowery?..I'm taking the train up for Snow Patrol on Tuesday and would rather leave it at home if I'm gonna be hassled.
