Aziz Ansari @ Emo's, Austin, TX (SXSW) | pic

Aziz Ansari @ SXSW

I'm pretty sure there were more people at Emo's Tuesday night (March 14, 2006) to see Aziz and the rest of the Comedians of Comedy than there were to see My Chemical Romance a few days later. Austin loved him. He went on to host the Stereogum party on Thursday, co-host the Pitchfork party on Friday, and perform a guest set with Patton Oswalt at a comedy club Friday night.

In Austin I learned that Aziz is now most famous for the Other Music video and that he'll be making his big screen debut soon. Billy Bob Thornton, David Cross and Sarah Silverman will be his co-stars.

Previously
The Dresden Dolls played SXSW, like comedy, touring
Common & Sonic Youth (& Aziz) playing Bonnaroo too

Goddammit! I'm tired of SXSW!

[I hate it's abbreviation, too... but it's convenient]

Aziz is indeed a very lame comedian who just happens to listen to some indie music.

Not sure why all the publicity, but I guess there's more and more people out there drinking the Aziz Kool Aid...

wow aziz haters! that is usually a sign a comedian is actually good so yay :) we have now been confirmed in our beliefs that Aziz is funny :)

I thought he was really funny.

He was also really cool when I ran into him waiting for an elevator at 4 in the morning.

Keep the SXSW recaps coming BV!

aziz isn't funny? tell that to the 600 kids (including BV and myself) who were laughing non-stop at the emo's show. aziz ansari is a fucking badass.

eugene mirman is by far 1000x funnier.

That Other Music video is not funny. It's so obvious. It's humor on the level of making fun of someone in a wheelchair.

uhm.. since when is making fun of the disabled NOT hilarious?

I've seen Aziz about a hundred times over the past few years and definitely think he is a fantastic comic. I think comedians like Patton Oswalt, David Cross, Eugene Mirman, Todd Barry and that whole posse represent a what is now an older generation of comedy whereas Aziz is a comedian for a slightly younger generation (while still being able to hang with the likes of Mirman et all)...

I guess what I'm saying is that he's good, but his appeal may lay more in a generation slightly below the above mentioned comedians and their colleagues (Glaser, Benjamin, etc...)

Also, I am happy this movie of his might get him some moeny, but I pray to Allah that doing schlock teen frat-boy bullshit won't become his forte.

It's like this...
David Cross is like Wilco.
Patton Oswalt is like Yo La Tengo. (Friends with everyone.)
Aziz Ansari is like the Arctic Monkeys a ton of hype but then you listen to them and you are like "OH THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD BUT NOT THE GREATEST BUT VERY GOOD."

so this was me Heatmeiser saying "Aziz Ansari is very good."
