Brian Jonestown Massacre played SXSW, Tour Dates
Brian Jonestown Massacre played a show at SXSW. Rachael Underrated was there: "Anton was up to his usual nonsense, playing long extended jams and bantering with the audience. It's kind of sad to see that it's become a farce. The music is great (when it’s not over 7 minutes) and he is talented. I won't go into any long rant, but let's just say I saw them and I'm not sure I need to see them again. A..." Wes was there too. He said they were "impressively monotomous and boring. Thirty minute three chord jams can be dreamy I guess, but I'd prefer actual songs".
If you'd like to witness the torture for yourself, they're playing some shows in May....

bjm were supposed to do a day show at red eyed fly but the band hadn't yet arrived, so anton jammed for about 10 mins on an on-the-spot song with his friends' band, the black angels, and i thought it was awesome. but maybe that's cos it was only one song for 10 mins and not longer...i'd see them. but not at webster hall...

anton has become a total buffoon.
it's one thing to make an ass out of yourself and act like you are some important cultural force or something, i mean, most nyc lead singers pull that contrived, 'wanna-be tortured genius' schtick...
but you have to deliver the goods at least as often as you dick around on stage, otherwise, why bother paying attention at all?
it's not like he is filling some void or something, you can't throw a penny in this town without hitting a megalomaniacal musician with a trendy haircut.
that band becomes more and more irrelevant with each new anecdote about their singer's falling star.

Don't see them. I saw them at the Bowery and they were fucking awful. Anton was screaming at this girl to get off stage, punching one of his bandmates, and then you have the 23 minute songs. Terrible. ALthough by the time the end of the show came pretty much no one was left so i got to be right up next to the stage with very few people around.

BJM's bass player is one of my good friends here in Portland. Here's the real story: Anton made it to the afternoon show but his entire band missed their flight to Austin from LA so he was forced to cancel the gig.
Later that night, the BJM drummer and one of the guitarists STILL hadn't made it to Austin, so they were forced to play a "jammy" sort of set as the two fill-ins they found on the spot didn't know the songs. BJM forever.
