Hi from Austin

Sorry for the lack of updates since I got to SXSW. Hopefully I'll find some time soon to start posting. Plus I can't get the pictures off my camera right now.

In the meantime...Tuesday night I caught the Comedians of Comedy show at Emo's with Aziz Ansari, Eugene Mirman, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn and Flight of the Conchords. It was awesome. Wednesday I saw 20 bands. Some highlights were Phosphorescent, Magneta Lane, Tapes 'n Tapes, The Zutons, Young Knives, The Grates, and Forward Russia. I have so many pictures and stories, and even some tour dates to post, but for now I have to sleep. Talk to you soon.

Don't forget to check out Brooklyn's own Man in Gray that is playing there. www.maningray.com. The lead singer Tina is an amazing performer.

yeah, i cant wait to hear about how you saw 5 minutes of 1000 shows, at least you'll have the pictures to prove how shitty 900 of those bands were

Posted by Anonymous | March 16, 2006 11:15 AM

seriously. 20 bands in one day? how did you do that if you didn't only see like 5 minutes of each?

Posted by Anonymous | March 16, 2006 11:40 AM

I didn't know Flights of the Conchords were playing SXSW...hands down the best folk-comedy duo from new zealand.

Well, let's see: He posted at 4:35 in the morning. Showcase sets down there start at ten in the morning, and most of them are in (as I understand) a localized area. Assuming bands play 30- to 45-minute showcase sets, and assuming you wouldn't WANT to hear more than five minutes of some bands, I don't find it impossible at all that one could see twenty acts your first day down there.

But can you remember the first one after you've heard the twentieth? And do you totally do a 360 the second day and catch just four or five?

Lolla is the best line-up of any festival I've seen this year. Just my opinion, but I plan on going.

I guess BV's having a good ol' time. Did anyone grant him permission to stop posting for 2 days? I mean, what am I paying for here? Oh wait . . . .

Glad you liked The Grates!

If you do a "360," dont you end up at the same place?
Refer to the quote below from a posting just a few ahead of this one.

"But can you remember the first one after you've heard the twentieth? And do you totally do a 360 the second day and catch just four or five?"

not necessarily. if you are doing a 360 aerial in a snowboard halfpipe, after completion you are now moving in the opposite direction from whence you came, while still facing uphill (or downhill if your on your toe-edge).

Yeah, I meant 180. Just chalk it up to how dizzying blah blah blah...

hey hey, thought you'd like to know that you're listed in today's AM NY.

Posted by Anonymous | March 17, 2006 10:40 AM

I don't read AM New York, so maybe you're there, too, but there's an interview with you in today's Metro (is that what the previous anonymous commenter meant?).

matt: think the previous poster was referring to
http://www.amny.com/news/local/newyork/am-blog0317,0,1387807.story

the reference is to brooklyn-vegan.com tho.

Posted by rad | March 17, 2006 11:36 AM

haha! That's pretty funny; looks like AM New York is poaching stories from Metro. The interview in Metro had brooklynvegan.com hyphenated because of its stretch over two lines; did AMNY just copy this? I've been noticing how AMNY is the more sucky of the subway-fire-kindling publications, this just adds to that perception.

On the bright side: the less people who have the correct URL, the more tickets for the rest of us!!

Posted by birdboy | March 17, 2006 12:59 PM

You're a celebrity now, Mr. Vegan! Better be careful--since Gawker Stalker began plotting celeb sightings on maps, stars have been afraid to leave their homes.

Posted by Nate | March 17, 2006 6:56 PM

This is disappointing. Brooklynvegan you are supposed to be reporting back. Particularly if you got a press badge. Please help us sad souls that are in New York not drinking free beer, eating bbq, running into Wayne Coyne and Neil Young. on 6th.
