Ah you're taking me back to my high school and college years Sam. I went to school at Rutgers, so I got to see The Bouncing Souls, Weston (who were from Pennsylvania but played in New Brunswick a lot) and Lifetime (or some combination thereof with other bands of the era like Headstrong, Ensign, Shades Apart, Vision and many others) almost every weekend (or so it seemed like) in either someone's basement, a VFW Hall, the short-lived Down Under club, City Gardens or at Middlesex County College. Interestingly, I ran into Dave Palaitis (Lifetime's bass player), who's an acquaintance, last May at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. He's married and living in the East Village now. I also know that Dan Yemin (their guitarist) lives in Philly and is a licensed psychologist. I saw him sitting at a table in a Vietnamese restaurant there a few months ago, though I didn't get to talk to him. Anyway, it's interesting but very cool that they're playing more reunion shows as they all seem to be busy with other things.
I also find out recently that Sticks and Stones have played several reunion shows in recent years. They were my favorite of all those bands from that era, so I'm toying with seeing them open for The Bouncing Souls in June.

I too am an old Bouncing Souls fan and had the pleasure of seeing them play Tramps back in the day. My connection was thru their original drummer Shal who has since been replaced. I loved those old shows.

Yeah they really shit all over these boring stand around looking cool indie rock shows that infest NYC and take up much of the content of this blog don't they?

wait did this band totally reform and sign to fall out boy's label?

are you gonna post my chemical romance pictures? (yeah.. i'm an indie fan, whatever that means.. but i secretly love mcr.)
Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2006 2:23 PM
yes, will post mcr pictures (they played right after lifetime) and more lifetime pics and jonah matranga pics too (he played at the same time as mcr in the other room).
I'm not sure on which label, but I did hear lifetime are recording a new album and will most likely do a proper tour. their new compilation cd is on Jade Tree.
also Matt: Dan Yemin and Dave Wagenschutz from Lifetime are now in Paint it Black who are also opening one of the Bouncing Souls shows.

I think that Shai now works at Maxwells. I've seen him there at almost every show I've been to there during the last year and a half or so. I've seen his younger brother there, too, if memory serves.

Sorry I meant Shal, not Shai! I must have been thinking of Shai Halperin, who incidentally went to my high school (he's either my year or one year behind me), of the Philly band The Capitol Years when I was typing that the first time around.

Shal does not work at Maxwells.
