MPR says to get Diamond Nights a babysitter

Diamond Nights

I just received a copy of this letter from Minnesota Public Radio regarding Diamond Nights' instudio performance during SXSW....

-----

Hey-

Although, they sounded fantastic and were generally great guys...Diamond Nights caused major havoc at our broadcast last night in Austin. Bringing an entourage of about 10 drunken, drugged out people who had to have hotel security called upon them for riding around on hotel luggage carts drinking boxed wine in our broadcast space. Not only were their groupies drunk...so was the band. It was blatantly obvious on the air as they boasted about drinking from a colostomy bag on the stage as they performed.

Now, I know this is rock n' roll but give me a flippin' break. Maybe you should consider assigning them a babysitter next time. We had to dump completely out of the broadcast during the second part of the interview because one of the members of their group in the audience screamed and dropped an f-bomb during the live broadcast. Previous to that they swore during the first part of their performance. Our engineer thankfully dumped out during that and was able to continue. But, the second time we just had to cut out completely. It's a real shame because their performance was fantastic and one that we all looked forward to.

We'll be editing the audio we do have from the performance and posting it on our website. But, please reconsider letting these fellas fend for themselves with their media related appearances. They obviously need someone to watch over them. Thanks again for helping to set this up but it was quite a disappointing disaster.

There's no mention of Diamond Nights on MPR's SXSW blog, but the audio from the band's performance is up.

This band is so awful. It's very telling that they get attention from the blog community at all.....Can someone please STEAL THEIR EQUIPMENT AGAIN?

this is really the worst band out of New York right now. i would really like to take a big dump on each and every one of them, but it's not even worth wasting my shit.

that band rocks. too bad they cursed a few times during a performance (whoa!) and their fans were drunk. they don't sound wasted on the recording.

um.

so, the problem here is that the guys who made a record that's all about partying and being drunk showed up drunk and partying?

they don't sound all that trashed on the audio. a little goofy, but so what? how much did they edit out?

>>hotel security called upon them for riding around on hotel luggage carts drinking boxed wine"

I've been that guy plenty atime. Methinks the Assistant Music Director doesn't have a mischievous bone is his/her body.

Still, the band can rock and are a lot of fun. It's unfortunate about the swearing, but oh well.

Awesome! Diamond Nights rule.

haha they sound like my kind of guys. I'll have to check them out.

if you listen to the recording, everyone from the band sounds sober, the music is tight, and morgan also apologizes repeatedly for the "fans" that followed them in, and says he's sorry he can't control them. the dj says it's fine and not to worry each time.

also, contrary to the letter, they don't "boast" about drinking from a colostomy bag" - if you listen, there's a bunch of joking around that comment (and the DJ actually brings it up).

i've met the band a bunch of times, and they're genuinely humble, polite guys. sure they like to party - but who doesn't during SXSW?

it's a pretty hilarious letter though, and MPR did a good job driving a lot of traffic to their site. i wouldn't have listened but i haven't read words like "flippin' break", "f bomb," "fellas," in coverage surrounding a rock band ... ever.

they probably sound semi-sober because of the power of editing.

Hysterical. What ever happened to the days when bands could act crazy and get away with it? (Minus Pete Doherty of course)
