b-s... some craigslister has 6 SIX! tickets posted at 11:56am -- Ticketmaster must be so fn corrupt.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:21 PM
that guy with the 6 tickets probably has a guy at irving. you could've stood in line at the box office.

from NYT 2001
The payoff made to a theater operator, agent or theater employee is known as ice. The attorney general's office has prosecuted several cases involving such payments, winning the conviction of the treasurer of the Jones Beach Marine Theater on charges of larceny and computer tampering. He has executed search warrants for two New York and two New Jersey ticket brokerage firms. They also reviewed the records of six Broadway productions -- at least one in each of the three major theater chains in New York -- as well as examining the records of a major nonprofit theater.

standing in the line at irving wont get you tickets if the thing sells out ONLINE at 12:00:10seconds
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:27 PM
This is the CL email address of the guy who had the listing at 11:56 am... lets get this guy... 'sale-146630682@craigslist.org' - If anyone knows how to start getting the ball rolling say so here. The authorities should shut this guy down - Craigslist has his email address stored from when he posted.

maybe it's jack white trying to make a fast buck. very sneaky, that one.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:35 PM
just called Irving Plaza box office...told there are "a few" tickets left, and that the line is long.
Posted by woodenlunch | March 30, 2006 12:36 PM
My roommate called Ticketmaster around 12:15pm and was told that online had sold out, but the IP box office still had tickets. Just as he hung up the phone on me, Ticketmaster online came thru w/my tix.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:36 PM
Slacping tickets unfortnately isn't illegal.

"standing in the line at irving wont get you tickets if the thing sells out ONLINE at 12:00:10seconds"
false - the guy at the box office came out at about 11:50 to count heads in the line, and confirmed that there shouldnt be a problem for the 60 or so in line. i got my pair at about 12:15. when i left irving, the line was still about 50 people long. popped into a building, came out 5 mins later, and the entire line was gone. soo, im assuming they announced "SOLD OUT" somewhere around 150-200 tickets.

well, i guess $20 + $10.50 ticketmaster is not much to complain about now, considering how fast the show sold out and what the aftermarket price is (92 per ticket on a completed ebay auction).
Posted by birdboy | March 30, 2006 12:43 PM
woohoo
$60 for a pair of tickets, already sold them for $200 on craigslist. gotta love supply and demand.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:54 PM
woohoo: you suck.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:58 PM
i'm just kidding by the way, i hate scalpers too. i did manage to get tickets though, thanks brooklynvegan for the heads up.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 12:59 PM
I paid 250 for arctic monkey's tickets....this is soooo payback.
If you went to irving at least fifteen minutes before noon, you go tix.

What the fuck is up with this post: http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tix/146650605.html
No need to ask about availabiity? How many tickets did these fuckers grab?
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 1:19 PM
definitely not 6, that's for sure
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 1:29 PM
Something has to be done about people buying for profit. Ticket companies should take a look at the sucess Glastonbury has had with getting rid of this problem.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 1:30 PM
The thing that has to be done about people buying for profit is: Don't buy them. Something sells out? Fine. It's going to cost you more than $25? Don't go. It's not worth it. You will not melt into a puddle of jizz because you missed a concert.
Plenty of other shows to see. Shrug, and move on.
Posted by J | March 30, 2006 1:43 PM
Ticketmaster pulled through for me! I snagged two tickets at 12:01
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 1:59 PM
Anyone at the box office at Irving today notice the weird props they were bringing into the venue? It looked like the set of a Japanese game show or something. Saves the Day plays tomorrow but nothing is on the calendar tonight.

cartoon network is filming something...
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 2:24 PM
Just click the prohibited button on the craigslist posts asking for anything other than face+charges or 'best offer'
Posted by birdboy | March 30, 2006 2:25 PM
cartoon network is previewing new shows, or new episodes of existing shows, to industry/advertising folks. based on the costumes, the powerpuff girls and robot chicken will be in attendance.

The Muldoon's are opening.
who are they?
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 2:41 PM
I got the "no tickets available" at 12:01pm, but then I kept going back and trying again. Probably around the 8th time tickets popped up.
Perhaps I just lucked out because people took too long entering their information.
Posted by mindy | March 30, 2006 2:41 PM
The Muldoon's are opening.

They're 8 and 11 years old.

flagging craigslist postings is nice and all but ultimately it doesn't work. craigslist generally has lower prices than ebay and if you force sellers to go on ebay then you are actually driving up secondary market prices. and if you're not even considering buying above face then you're just being bitter and lame.
Posted by ondal | March 30, 2006 2:48 PM
You know why that guy has 6 tickets? Because they are probably fake. I feel like setting up a lawn chair and a cooler of beer to laugh at people as they discover that they bought fake tickets. MUAHAHAHAHA

A show selling out this fast is very disappointing. It seems like this only took a few seconds to sell out. I don't want to sound like a crybaby, but when a show like this sells out so fast two things occur: First, the scalpers have reason to scalp even harder. A show that sells out this fast will obviously have the demand and the scalpers will take advantage of it. Second, when a show like this sells out so fast it becomes a 'scene'. This show will go from something I really wanted to check out to something scenesters who can afford it will line up to get into regardless of who's playing.
That's me two cents. SHOVE IT!
Love
Klaus
Posted by klaus kinski | March 30, 2006 5:14 PM
I can't imagine it becoming a scene, maybe the next time around. But maybe those so called scenesters are tired of Jack White. Who am I to say. Anyway I would have liked tickets but I am not about to pay 100-200 dollars to chance some band that I have heard two songs of, and released a more than mediocre video. Hopefully ticketmaster misplaced some tickets and will stumble across them later in the week.

ondal's ticketmaster tips for sure sellouts:
1. make sure your computer clock is accurate. ticketmaster is almost always on time.
2. don't keep hitting refresh at 11:59, ticketmaster will lock you out.
3. always have 2 different browsers open to the event page before (i.e. firefox and internet explorer) so you can have a backup just in case you get locked out.
4. have a ticketmaster account with a credit card on file and make sure you log in before the event.
5. if the anti-robot word generator thing gives you a tough word that you can't read, just type in anything and hit enter so you can get a new word. like passing in $10,000 Pyramid.
6. if you get assed out in the first few minutes wait 2 to 8 minutes and try again as other people decide they don't want them.

I was on at 12 oclock and 1 second.. and it said sold out
damn this
isn't irving quite large? I wouldn't have expected it to sell out in .001 of a second
and I know I'm asking in vain.. but if anyone has an extra ticket.. i would love you :)
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 6:27 PM
you know, not everyone is evil. i put my extra raconteurs ticket up for sale on craigslist for face. well, plus surcharges. i may be a broke student, but dammit if i don't have my dignity!

Every larger venue in NYC allocates a certain number of tickets for groups like businesses, promoters, clients, etc., just like stadiums do. The actual capacity of the venue is reduced by this number when determining how many tickets are for sale to the general public. This is also how larger blocks of real tickets go up for sale early or immediately at the time of sale.
Venue box offices (or their agents, like record stores) are allocated a certain number of tickets, and the rest then go to Ticketmaster/Ticketweb. Ticketmaster's 'sold out' only refers to that particular source of tickets- the show isn't actually 'sold out' until the venue says it is.
Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2006 9:26 PM
^^
This isn't entirely accurate. Ticketmaster subsidary Ticketweb routinely holds a small batch of tickets for Bowery Presents shows (Bowery, Webster, Mercury, Hiro, Nokia) and some other venues in other cities for a late release less than a week before the event date. Despite having a SOLDOUT banner on the Webster Hall and/or Bowery Web sites, I was able to snag wll call tickets to Snow Patrol, James Blunt and Arctic Monkeys in Philly for face. (I didn't even go to that stupid Monkeys show due to laziness).
James Blunt gets me all moist, btw. mainly b/c i sold them on ebay for 5x face.

excellent information... i never thought of a lot of that stuff. And much of that "allocation" gets into the wrong hands. That explains a lot. Thanks
Posted by birdboy | March 30, 2006 10:08 PM
what pisses me off most is that ticketmaster.com still hasn't listed the show as being sold out. they need to get with the program already.
Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2006 10:56 AM
ondal is correct: I was speaking generally (not Bowery-specific) above. Point is that the venue, not the ticket agent, determines when a show (rather than a certain ticket allocation for a show) is sold out.
Ticketmaster may not have announced this show as sold out yet, because there could be more tickets released (though I have no idea if that's the case or not). Like I said, the venue tells Ticketmaster what to do.
