SXSW Resource Thread | Leaving tomorrow

I'm leaving for SXSW tomorrow, and can use all the help I can get. I've got 10 million emails, the SXSW website, the Donewaiting blog, Austin Showlist, and this cool interactive map.

LEAVE IN THE COMMENTS
1) Any other helpful links
2) Where a vegan should eat
3) What bands not to miss
4) Anything else

Use e-mail if you want to contact me privately. See you in Austin.

band not to miss: the bats. I saw them at Maxwell's last night on the strength of one song I had heard recently on kexp. Great band, great guys.

Have a great time at SXSW, BV!

i can help out with #2 seeing as i'm a veghead. these are places you must eat at when in austin.

Mother's Cafe (all vegetarian/lots of vegan) - traditional food

Veggie Heaven (all vegetarian/lots of vegan) - great chinese food

Nu Age Cafe (all vegan) - very creative dishes here... definitely check it out

Swad (all vegetarian/some vegan)

Casa de Luz (all vegetarian/some vegan) - macrobiotic

if you need anymore info on these places, directions, etc. let me know. i live here!

Seriously great resource...google map with all venues....when you hover over a venue it tells you the lineup. Or click on the band name on the right and it plots where the venue is. Note that you can change which date the map shows in the upper left corner.

I went to Veggie Heaven last year, i thought it was pretty good, plus it's right near the diesel store, so a good place to eat if you're there picking up passes to their party. More info here:

I hate beating a dead horse... but I'd be grateful if someone could catch any of Tunng's shows. They've never played the States, and don't have any plans on returning after SxSW. I'm curious as all hell how they are live.

@ End of An Ear March 15th Afternoon,
@ The Velvet Spade March 16th Night,
@ Victory Grill March 17th Afternoon.

To add to food places: Mr. Natural has two locations and is good, mostly vegan Tex-Mex. Wheatsville Co-op near the Drag has a great vegan selection in the deli (try the ginger tempeh pasta salad and the frito pie). And get the Tom Kha with tofu at Madam Mam's on the drag. Mother's Cafe is pretty overrated, but if you go, get the spicy tempeh enchiladas or the BBQ tofu, and don't settle for anything else. And get Lily to wait on you :-)

As far as music goes: Peter and the Wolf: campy folk music on Wednesday night 1a.m. Karma Lounge

Weisse Geist: beautiful instrumental/experimental stuff on Friday night, 7pm, also at Karma

The Black: elegant beer-drinkin music, 1am Friday, Bourbon Rocks

They're all some of my favorite li'l Austin bands. Have fun in my hometown... I miss it!!

Love,
Prof (a "mostly vegan" chef)

Please go see The Tuna Helpers on the 17th at 8 at Habana Calle Patio. Please don't steal my spot at Morrissey. I'll be trying to elbow through with Wes.

FYI I've been told Madam Mams fries EVERYTHING in chicken fat. Nothing on the menu is actually vegetarian. This may be out of date info, of course. I haven't been back since!
