The Fiery Furnaces @ Red's Scoot Inn, Austin, TX (SXSW) | pics

Not having a badge shouldn't hold you back from visiting Texas for SXSW. With some persistence, and websites like Austin Showlist and Oh My Rockness, you'll fill your days and nights with mostly free music like the non-stop lineups at Red's Scoot Inn on Austin's east side. Just a short walk from the convention center, Red's features a spacious outdoor stage and beer garden. I got there Friday night (March 17, 2006) in time to catch Earlimart and the Fiery Furnaces. John Vanderslice, Crystal Skulls, Scout Niblet, and Joggers played earlier in the night. The Fiery Furnaces' set was one of the best shows I saw at SXSW. They played 16 songs (2 song encore included) with a full band and no keyboards.

Right across the street was the 'Big Orange' party/show. Dirty on Purpose, Voxtrot, Dr. Dog, and Sound Team played the show hosted by Sound Team in their own warehouse/studio space. Members of Spoon and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were there. I spent the night going back and forth.

I was at the Big Orange. Dr. Dog rocked out for real!!! Very impressed. I was standing right behind Alec from CYHSY, who (I should note) knew all the words and nodded his head with the best of them. I don't get ppl who still aren't down with the Dog.

I took some good pics of the Big Orange. That party was awesome. I wish all the Austin parties had been that cool. Here's the link for the pics: http://crazytalk.typepad.com/photos/sxsw_06_crazytalk_debauch/index.html
ALSO - I got up the nerve to do an interview with Britt Daniel by the keg. Go to www.crazytalk.org & scroll down for that one.
