I got to Mercury Lounge 10 minutes too late to see The Grates last week. They played before Corinne Bailey Rae and Guillemots. I made up for it by catching them twice at SXSW. Both times they made my day.
These photos are from the Australian band's 2:00 PM performance at Filter's Revenge of Cedar Street SXSW bash on Friday, March 17, 2006. Even when singer Patience Hodgson isn't singing "Trampoline", she acts like there's one under her feet. More music at Myspace.

Anyone happen to catch Go! Team at Bowery last night. I've never seen so many people either smiling or dancing or both at a show in New York. It was like a huge party. Music was great and the vibe was insane. Ninja danced her ass off throughout the whole show and got everyone to sing choruses, dance on demand, etc. She even did an international dance breakdown during the encore in which she would call out the name of the region, "AFRICA!" and then break into an African dance, "IRELAND!" and break into Riverdance type moves, "RUSSIA!" and finally "NEW YORK!" and broke out some break moves and ended by the classic 80's hip-hop pose with arms crossed over her chest staring out at the crowd before cracking herself up. They played a bunch of new songs which I thought were great. High energy show, so glad I saw it.

The grates Are the best. I love the music, the style (totally my style) and everything about them there Music just clicks soooo well with me. CAN"T WAIT FOR THEERE CONCERT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
