the Noisettes @ Mercury Lounge, NYC | pics
"‘Three Moods of the…’ is the first release from the Noisettes, a three piece from southeast London. Noisettes are fronted by Shingai Shoniwa, a vocalist and instrumentalist who sings like Billy Holiday on PCP while patrolling the stage like an Amazonian Warrior." [says SXSW who has an MP3]

After Land of Talk left the stage, Mercury Lounge quickly filled up for the Noisettes show Friday night (March 24, 2006). It was more packed even than it was later for Mystery Jets who took the stage after them. The Noisettes were engergetic and fun, but ultimately didn't do anything for me. There's some songs at their Myspace.

At least three of the Arctic Monkeys were in attendance - it was their night off before the Webster Hall show.

Reviews also @ Music Slut & Music Snobbery. The NY Times features the Noisettes in their SXSW recap.

don't forget about the Howling Bells, you'll like them better than the Noisettes.

Oh man! I'd heard such good things about this band. Don't know how I managed to miss this show.
Sorry to hear you weren't into it, that certainly taints things for me a bit.
BTW, I just started a blog focusing on touring and the concert industry.

I really like the Noisettes's mix of 20's-ish jazz and rock. And Shingai is totally awesome. When the Noisettes opened for Bloc Party in NYC last year Shingai, clad in a tutu and body suit, did a cartwheel on stage with the MIC IN HER MOUTH and she was STILL making noise! I was moved.
