The Refugee All Stars (of Sierra Leone) @ SXSW | Playing Summerstage
"Six men forced from their homes by violence in Sierra Leone have transformed their experience into a musical calling. The Refugee All Stars are now the subject of a feature-length documentary that follows their performances in refugee camps, and their eventual return to war-ravaged Freetown. The documentary just won the Grand Jury Prize at the AFI Festival in Los Angeles." [NPR]
REFUGEE ALL STARS ON THE STREET @ SXSW 2006

It was Saturday night (March 18, 2006) in Austin. I think I was walking on 6th Street towards Congress to eventually catch a cab that would bring me to a latenight show at a store called Factory People. Along the way I passed The Refugee All Stars playing on the street. In June they're playing Central Park Summerstage.

They inspired an impressive dance-off right outside the Driskill, if I do recall.

i meant "sounded good," not "looked good" because you can't see anything on the radio, right?
