$750 was a deal | Madonna madness continues on eBay

I checked Ticketmaster at 9:15 this morning. Two nights of Madonna at MSG were completely sold out fifteen minutes after tickets went on sale to the general public. Actually it's not surprising - they were probably gone almost instantly. I just checked eBay. Also not surprising - half the stadium is up for sale, and plenty already have new owners. Somewhat surprising - what some people are willing to pay...

And she's doing a 5000 cap. tent at Coachella? That's gonna redefine shitstorm...

"A Sample Of Completed Ebay Auctions" is the title....that means people DID pay over $2000 for Madonna tickets. Crazy.

$2,000 to see someone lip synch? What a bargain.

Oh man guys! I found $2000 on the ground today. I wish someone could tell me the stupidest way for me to piss it away!

If i was comfortable with being a hypocrite, i'd totally start scalping tickets on ebay; obviously there is money to be made.

I thought cocaine was god's way of telling people they had too much money. I was wrong - this is it.

Posted by shumway | April 10, 2006 10:51 PM

the green monetary value means that someone has already bid at that amount. so i guess people are willing to pay over $2k.

I am a diehard fan, but $2000 seems a little obscene for ANY kind of live event. As for the comment about Madge lip-synching her concerts, clearly the poster has not seen her live and is only going on what the bitter Sir Elton tells the media.

What kills me are these shows selling in like three seconds.

Just to end up being scalped in some shape, way, or form anyway.

Its just so unfair. So, right now your gonna have a few seats filled with obnoxious suits who buy the overpriced ticket just to say they went to one of the most hottest shows around, while a real fan is locked out.

I love the Madonna street-team lurkers: They post all the time on Velevet Rope and elsewhere defending her whenever someone says anything about her.

Note to lurker: Elton John? Please, this is an indie rock blog, for the most part (though, for some reason, we're discussing Madonna on it, but never mind). Indie rock fans could generally care less what Sir Elton has to say. No, I'm not dumb enough or saddled with bad enough taste to see her live, but I saw the Grammy's this year. I've seen Truth & Dare. I've seen countless MTV music video awards. The woman lip synchs. Hell, she even admits it and defends it. Even better, if you read the swell Neko Case interview over on Pitchfork, you'll learn she more than likely uses auto-tune on her recordings.

Oh, and, really, the whole Flashdance leotard look is truly, truly awful.

I agree with Matt. This woman can fade away into music history for all I care. I may be nostalgic 20 years from now when A&E Biography runs some Madonna special. But until then...

Not to keep harping on this, but does anyone remember the mid to late 80s? If you were listening to the Replacements, REM, Husker Du, The Minutemen, Pixies, New Order, Echo & The Bunymen, The Cure et. al. in those days (and, yeah, I was young, but I was starting to get really into that stuff around 1986-1987, as I'm sure others on here were too), Madonna was the enemy. Crap top 40 pop for people who didn't view music as art but rather something to listen to at the prom or for a night out. I'm not arguing that indie folks should be completely hostile to all "pop" or Top 40--I for one think Prince was and is absolutely brilliant, to give one example, and I will admit that I still think Like a Prayer is a good tune--but the new fangled embrace of this stuff is just frustrating. See Pitchfork and others' championing of Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams. Have the guts to call something that's crap crap. Madonna, especially now, is crap.

And, please, don't get me started on Annie.
