You don't know how happy it makes me to see Voxtrot in the top 10.

also try http://ampcamp.com which always has 99 cent shipping and cheper prices than Insound on most releases. Also note Pitchfork Media's daily reviewed albums swtiched from listing the option to buy it now from Insound to Amp Camp. Oh the politics of commerce.

Yeah, Amp Camp is the perfect match for Pitchfork: they are both almost equally pretentious in their reviewing and categorization.
For reference, see Amp Camp's: 1) "Ideal Audience" tag ("Hipsters" seems to be the common one); 2) "Unusual Instruments" tag (no joke, taken straight from the Islands "Return to the Sea" listing: "...Electric Guitar, Drums, Guitar, Keyboards"); and 3) ridiculous "Degree of Difficulty" formula.

Don't dis Amp Camp. I told the guy I needed the Art Brut CD toute de suite since I am seeing them at Southpaw, and he rushed my CD right out, I got it Monday from a Friday order for only a buck shipping. Reasonable pricing too.

i can't explain how much i LOVE cheper prices!

Thanks to jonnyrocks for pointing out the not-so-unusual instruments; it has been appropriately amended. (In fairness, he didn't mention that horns, clarinet, and cello were also correctly listed.)
As far as pretention issue goes, those features are there precisely to allay pretentiousness through playfulness, not to denigrate people for liking something--we don't sell anything we wouldn't/don't listen to ourselves. I think maybe the intent was simply being misread there. It's just a fun way for us to provide editorial content to our users.
Regarding cheap shipping, I'm happy to see other companies following us on that front (even if only on a promotional basis). I think everyone can agree that the fewer barriers there are to people supporting talented artists, the better.
Thanks to the people who vouched for us with kind words, too--coming across things like that which make this all worthwhile, and I mean that with all sincerity.
For the record, Voxtrot is #16 and rising on our best seller list. A fantastic EP, for sure.
...and this will be my last reply. Promise.

amp camp's prices used to be cheaper but lately they're higher. i wanted to preorder elf power and checked both insound and ac and insound was $1.25 less. plus insound had a free 7" with order and ac just had a 'Pin Pack', whatever that is. (three pins maybe? who cares?) but ac did have lower prices before, when everything was $9.99.

Amp Camp? For real? That is the most annoying site ever. It's like Urban Outfitters lite for indie rockers lite. Plus they don't carry anything. Well, except for what Pitchfork reviews. I really thought it was a joke when Pitchfork linked to them. I really did. But I guess not.

Amp Camp: lame site, lame name, lame audience categories, lame web affiliates, even lamer clothing company...do these guys do anything that isn't lame?

Wait, since we're all hating. You know what I hate? NAZIS!!! Fucking killed all my ancestors. Bastards, and they didn't even have 99c shipping back then. But on a LESS serious note, what the fuck BV? Since when are you advertising flat out? It's like next week you'll be like, "oh I saw this band they were so good, thank go the drummer had the new Pearl Export Series with Maple lugs. I think they come standard with double braced harware and are available in champagne, red, and Insound Hipster Black Corduroy."

amp camp is the lamest name for an online record store. it makes me think of that annoying band camp thing from American Beauty.

I don't understand how a post like this is any different than him posting about a tour or an album release. Is that advertising too? It's music related, it's helpful information for people who buy music, and it supports an online indie store. Seems par for the course to me. Do you really think Insound came up to him and were like "we'll give you $50 for an ad" And then, on a site that has never shown a chink in its honor or integrity, would try to sneak it in without disclosing it? That's absurd.

he was offering a tip on how to save some cash, you guys need to relax. if someone posted this in their livejournal, you'd thank them for the tip, not call them sellouts.
ps: nearly lost it when i saw voxtrot only 1 spot behind YYY's the other day. they've got great things coming their way!

Dont listen to em Amp Camp. I like your site, people just like to hate. I am usually one of those people...

I totally support our troops, and totally respect the sacrifice they made for us, but I hate getting my CDs packages all badly taped, and the writing on the address almost illegible. A mail-order CD company run by war amputees is a bad idea. I'm sure there are other good jobs for them to have.
