Thank you so much Wes and Cross Pollination for setting this up. “We’re an indie rock band that integrates electronica. Tonight we’re going organica”. That’s approximately what Cloud Cult singer and guitarist Craig Minowa said to introduce their intimate, electronic-less acoustic-like set upstairs at Piano’s last night (April 18, 2006). I almost shed a tear at the show the night before at Knitting Factory. I completely laughed, cried, and got multiple cases of the chills at this one. They played “Transistor Radio” (again), and the extremely emotional “My Son is Watching” about Craig’s young son that tragically passed away in his sleep. (stream at MPR)
This was Cross Pollination, so there was a full set by M Shanghai String Band before Cloud Cult played, and three collaborative songs by both bands to end the night. Together they covered “Mr. Tambourine Man“, (stream at KEXP and at MPR) another song, and (again, sort of) “You are My Sunshine”. People were singing along. It was a really special night. Rachael Underrated likey too. More at the Yeti.
