CYHSY @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC | pics | Night 2

I managed to catch Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Bowery Ballroom for the 2nd night in a row last night (April 15, 2006), and I'm glad I did because they managed to top what was an already awesome show the night before.

It was the last show on their tour, and they brought in their friends from Philly to open for them - The Teeth and Scott McMicken from Dr. Dog.

Differences in the set included a slower new song that I loved, and a tour-ending 4-song encore that concluded with a cover of Neil Young's Helpless. To make it extra special, they brought Scott McMicken (and 2 other guys from?) back to the stage to jam...

Finally got to see CYHSY!!! And thank god because they were freakin awesome! (And for the record, let me just say there's nothing at all wrong with their live show.) Anyway, great show, can't wait for next time.

Show bored me. I left halfway.

last night's show was amazing...BV, couldn't agree more with your earlier post that we saw an entirely different alec than we usually saw last year. really enjoyed the new songs, and the "helpless" cover during the encore was great, reminiscent of "the last waltz." i've got some more pics from night 2 here: http://indie-licious.blog.com/685684/

thanks for posting pics BV! you must've been only a few feet away from me! As elusive as ever you are! I think that you had a point with the term "unaffectionate" in reference to their live show. Maybe they're not quite uncaring, but a little reserved? I was wondering if they were having fun at all (esp. Tyler and Lee, though Robbie always seems jovial), but as the show got going some genuine smiles spread across their faces. And they all looked like they were having a lot of fun during the Neil Young cover.

If any of you missed the teeth, they were awesome. (disclaimer: this review was based only on shoe kicking and guitarist facial hair.)

People still like these dudes? Thought it'd die down after all the hype went mainstream (see also: Arcade Fire)

Both shows were awesome and well worth the time for anyone tainted by the "mainstreaming" of bands or anyone not that familiar with CYHSY. I felt a little bad for the openers on both nights only because both shows were more like reunion parties where everyone was more interested in hanging out and talking to people they haven't seen in a while. The jabbering seemed deafening at times. It seems that everyone in the band is getting a better stage presence. I am one person who is definitley looking forward to further activity from these guys. SATAN says dance!

I forgot to mention that Scarlett Johansen and Josh Hartnett were there (but I didn't see them :/)

that can't be, because i spotted Scarlett Johansen and Josh Hartnett at Croxley's at precisely the same time. liar!

scarlett and josh were definitely at Bowery Ballroom from 11:30-1:00.

i know that at 12:18am I was pulling a rusty trombone on josh while scarlett was biting my nipples so i know the times must be off....

Does anyone notice that the hyped bands are getting worse and worse? Starting on top with the quality Arcade F; Clap Your Pitchfork and Arctic Donkeys are the lowest of the low. I guess sweet revenge is the mainstreaming of these clowns. Bring it on!

dance dance, my friend!

Ya, those mainstream bands are definitely getting worse. All of their second albums were huge let downs… Plus they just don’t care about shows any more, only someone that was really lazy would bring people from other bands on stage to jam.
They might be big, and that usually increases the ratio of 16 year old girls screaming at shows, but you can’t say that they have gotten worse with any justification other than the fact that you feel useless now that your 3 favorite bands are everyone else’s.

Awesome. You guys are really on the criticism vanguard: I can tell because of how quickly you can hate things that you once adored!! I so want to be your newest ex-girlfriend.
Rules:
* Mainstream = bad (remember, you are or you aren't mainstream. No middleground for "mainstream" haters)
* 2nd albums = suck
* This year's senior class = SO much less cool than last year's senior class.
Remember kids: it's almost more important these days to be the first to GET OFF the bandwagon as it is to be the first to get on, which you all were, you fucking clowns.

So now I'm feeling all kinds of guilt for sucking the life out of a poor guy who just wants to go fishing on the weekends.

And my silent agreement goes something like "Because she was fucked up enough as a kid to decide to fuck on film for fortune and fame."

I switched the vibrator off and set it aside. My hips were starting to get sore, so Dangly picked me up & scooted me up the bed. I straightened my legs as he moved his to the outside.
