"In another senseless slap down, Court floors Big Apple’s dancers. What this means is that if you shake your butt in a venue that isn’t zoned for dancing, you and the club could be in for some serious fines. Once again, the ancient cabaret laws of NY are dragged out to promote 'quality of life' issues which help rob the city of the culture that makes it famous...." [Crazed by the Music]

The cabaret law of nyc is like those old, funny laws that you hear about in a state like texas, e.g. "don't fuck your horse on a thursday evening," or some wacky shit like that... only that they're still enforced. are people really sent to jail for dancing at, say, Pegu Club or abc no rio?

I figured they just keep it on the books so they can play Nazi's in controlling where new clubs open up, to keep the riff raff to a minimum.

The laws are enforced btw, you get fines and I think possibly they can even shut your place down. Ive been to more then a few places with 'No dancing' signs, its probably not a total breeze to get the license
