Human Television @ Rare, NYC | pics

I'm listening to the new Human Television album as I write this - I still love it. Maybe they didn't soundcheck, or maybe Rare is a hard place to play - it seemed too loud and I could barely hear the vocals (neither could Steve) - not sure the band could hear each other either. So, it was a sadly disappointing show last night (April 14, 2006), but it was also the first time I'd seen them - I have nothing to compare it to. Jerry was at their recent Mercury Lounge show and attributes some of the awkwardness to the band not having played together in a while.

From Rare it was off to Bowery for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

went to Rare just to see the 303's and i have to agree that the sound guy mutilated their usually crisp catchy sound. human television sounded a bit too Pavement on vocals and Joy Division on bass/drums.. but hey who doesnt recycle these days..

Every time I've ever been to Rare, there has been some sort of sound problem that basically ruined the performance. I'd have to say that it's the worst venue in the city.

I have seen Human TV many times live and they have always been awful. I quite like the records but live they are dull and a mess. Last year and this year. A studio band.

our band played @ Rare, it was the worst sound situation we've ever been involved with - needless to say, we won't be back - shame too, nice location for live music but looks like they still haven't made the proper investment to at least compete w/ the likes of Mercury lounge.
