Kyp Malone @ SXSW | Tv on the Radio played some shows

I actually missed Kyp Malone's solo show at the Fader tent during SXSW. He was just leaving when I got there. Ghostface played on the same stage some time later.
TV on the Radio played two shows in NYC last week. One was unannounced at Union Pool in Brooklyn. Casa De Punk was there and has pictures. Someone told me they couldn't get in at 8:30, but Jerry says he got there at 9:26 and got in just fine (oh wait, that was just the same band in the same place last year, I'll leave the link up anyway).
The other show was well advertised, and at the sold-out Bowery Ballroom. I tried to buy a ticket about 5 minutes after they went on, but was told "no way". (I was in the neighborhood). Danfun has a review and pictures.

yeah, I was at the Katrina Benefit at Union Pool on Sept 11th. I guess New York magazine called that gig one of the top three live shows in 2005 in all of NYC (according to a comment on Union Pool's myspace).

I heard NY Magazine only went to 3 shows in 2005

ha. could be. it was a fine show, except for the godawful heat and lack of air in that room.

new york magazine, hah. that rag is irrelevant. shit writing, weak reportage, pap on a page.

I would hardly call New York magazine irrelevant. It was, after all, responsible for outing "J.T. Leroy" as a fraud with a really long, exhaustive, excellent piece. That story kind of went on to be a pretty big deal.

point taken. i've found the magazine to be pretty uninsightful and lightweight but props to them for the leroy piece; i should check it out.

They rocked out at Bowery Ballroom (the new songs sound good), though the Celebration had more energy. And not to get all Gawker stalker, but spotted at the show: the guitarist from Interpol, the 2 French twins who look like Wayne Coyne from Blonde Redhead, David Bowie, and that Rolling Stone writer who's at every Bowery Ballroom show.

Whoa, he looks like an African-American Karl Marx.

his solo set at the fader lounge was really awful

David Fricke? I didn't see him there, but I did spot him and Daniel Kessler (Interpol's guitarist) as well as Kyp (to sort of bring this thread full-circle) at the Yeah Yeah Yeahs show (the 2nd night) at Bowery back in February.
