National High 5 Day, a blogger, a musician, RBI Baseball & some shows

HAPPY NATIONAL HIGH FIVE DAY!
This holiday that falls on the third Thursday of April each year "originated at the University of Virginia in 2002, and has since spread across the nation, and around the globe." Other websites wishing us Happy High Fives this year include VH1's Best Week Ever, DCist, and A Robot Cometh.

National High Five Day

THE FOUNDERS & THEIR CONNECTION TO MUSIC
National High Five Day was founded by Sam Miotke, singer-songwriter Wynn Walent, and San Diego music blogger Conor Lastowka. Wynn regularly plays all the fine singer-songwriter-type establishments in NYC, of which I've personally seen him at Sidewalk Cafe, Rockwood Music Hall and Galapagos. Wynn is also associated with Kitchen Sink Music, a non-profit organization that brings classical music to kids and rock venues.

Conor Lastowka runs San Diego Serenade from San Diego where he recently reviewed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Flaming Lips, and Tapes 'n Tapes in Haiku.

There's also a National High Five Day soundtrack which they were recently recruiting artists for.

RBI BASEBALL

If you're into sports at all, you've probably seen the Nintendo RBI Baseball video reenactment of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series by now. As Gothamist pointed out just two days ago, National High Five Day founder Conor Lastowka is also responsible for this popular piece of genius.

***HIGH FIVE DAY EVENTS TONIGHT*** (April 20, 2006)

IN BROOKLYN - founder Wynn Walent (9:00), Elephant Parade (10:00), and Chris Garneau (11:00) perform at Pete's Candy Store. Free.

IN SAN DIEGO - The Bo Dukes and Shaka Baku perform at Blind Melon's in Pacific Beach. Founder Conor will be on hand to sign your copy of RBI Baseball, or your hand.

I agree with the 1st commenter. Thanks for posting a link to that BV. As a Mets fan since 1985, it gave me a chance to relive one of the highlights of my childhood. I'd forgotten some of the details of that fateful bottom of the 10th inning in Game 6. As a side note, few fans remember that Game 7 was rained out initially and played 2 days later and the Mets came from behind to win it (and the Series) 8-5. So who else is pissed that we lost the 1st season series to Atlanta. :-)
