SECRET MACHINES @ HIRO BALLROOM | 4/26/2006
Secret Machines @ Hiro Ballroom

Ryan sent in this photo and said, "It was a sonic show filled with atmosphere, mood, and prog. It was as if we were all in a warehouse circa 1970 witnessing history."

Very cool show. I'd never seen an 'in the round' show in a club before. Some technical difficulties interrupted the set once and caused a half hour delay before the encore. It was worth the wait. I heard they're doing the same at the El Ray in LA this weekend (tonight?). I got to chat up the band after the show and they were excited with the outcome.

It is also worth mentioning that the film the entire show. And for Daddy Doldrum I have a few pics over at my site.

I counted 5 mini-DV cameras during the set. The guy in front of me was using a Panasonic DVX-100B for what it's worth. Three around the stage, one in the roped off booth section, and one up in the balcony. One of the camera operators was talking to the folks next to me, and said they were filming "for the band."

I don't think I've ever been so excited to see a band before (okay, well maybe Phish). The 5/13 show at the Metro in Chicago is going to be AMAZING. Unfortunately, though, no circular stage setup for us; the Metro can't pull that off...

Bottom line... the SECRET MACHINES are the greatest band alive on the planet earth today. Not only was this gig a true homage to the prog-gods of yesteryear but their exclusive performance at Virgin the following night was a brilliant contrast / compliment to their otherwise stunning performances. "1000 seconds" is enough said! EVERYBODY needs to get hip to the sophisticated sounds of what is only a SECRET today!!!!!!!!
