Strokes, Dead Boys to play Joey Ramone birthday bash
"The Strokes have announced plans to perform at a special tribute concert for former Ramones legend Joey Ramone. The band will play alongside the Dead Boys, The Dictators' Andy Shernoff and Cheetah Chrome at New York's Irving Plaza on May 19 on what would have been the late singer's 55th birthday. The Joey Ramone Birthday Benefit was set up a month after he lost his seven-year battle with cancer in April 2001. ....Tickets for the bash are priced at $25 (£14), and are on sale now. All proceeds will go the Lymphoma Research Foundation." [NME] (thx Graham and J)

is this just going to be one song? or a short set? or a set? $25 is pretty steep for one song but worth it for 10 songs.

from what i have heard from past years every act plays a full set. and the strokes are the headliner so they will get a good sized set. when they did that ramones cancer benefit they did something like 11 so im assuming this will be similar

i called the irving plaza box office and asked what time the Strokes got on at the birthday bash and the guy at the box office said, "the strokes? this is the first i've heard of them playingthat event..."

From what I've read about the, they split the vocals up between the living (I've seen Cheetah and Magnum, and Cheetah and Zero). They haven't added an actor to play Stiv, or anything like that...
Chrome, in Billboard: '"Stiv is not going to be replaced for any reason. We're still dodgy about calling it 'The Dead Boys' [but] that's kind of what we're stuck with," he says with a laugh.'

The event was AWESOME even tho the Strokes only did, like, 2 songs. But Tracy Thornton was great - he opened the show playing Ramones songs on a steel drum - and Mindless Self Indulgence were great and the all star jam at the end was priceless...Cheetah and Andy Shernoff and Mickey Leigh and Jean Beauvoir and Richie Stotts and Richie and Tommy Ramone! Also liked The Alarm. Great show. Were you there?

With a turn she left the blushing girl at the counter, but not before saying in a reassuring tone, ÓYou really should take him up on the offer. He is very good at itÔ
